The book was set up in three sections. The first section discussed eight foundational questions, the second took the reader through eight self-discovery exercises pertaining to the eight questions in the first section and the third was an appendix of examples and resources to help in the self-discovery exercises. The approach was academic and businesslike. The main purpose of the book was to help the reader establish an individual blueprint for living a Christian life by focusing on values, priorities and goals. What I liked about his approach was that the author took you through relevant exercises that really accomplished the purpose of creating a strategy for living an intentional life. The layout of the book was well organized and had a logical progression. I also liked the numerous quotes and stories he included. I thought the “Deeper Life Stories” at the end of each chapter to be a bit out of place. I didn’t think they added value to the concepts covered in the chapters but were more of a testimony and praise about Daniel Henderson. I gained a lot of insight from the book about how to create and implement an individual strategy for living a Christian life and remaining focused on my priorities.
I would recommend this book for any Christian that wants to live a life with a Biblical direction and purpose.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Daniel Henderson used to be my senior pastor back when I lived in California and I even had the pleasure of having his son in my youth group on Sunday morning. Pastor Henderson is a gifted speaker and a wonderful author whose heart and passion are for serving Christ's Kingdom.
His latest book, The Deeper Life is a journey into 8 core questions each of us have: Who is God? Who am I? Why am I here? What really matters? What am I going to do? How and when will I do it? And how will I finish once I begin?
Henderson's book helps the reader discover their own identity through the journey of theology in a way that helps recognize both their purpose and their value. As a pastor myself and as a person who is constantly looking for material and teaching curriculum I was happy to see 13 study appendixes as well as group study questions to take the conversation even "deeper."
Wonderfully written, "Deeper Life" certainly adds much to the growing conversation of Christian health and discipleship.
Thank you to Bethany house for this preview copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
