At eighteen, Corinne Bishop was a beautiful, spirited young woman living a life of privilege as the adopted daughter of a wealthy family. Her world changed in an instant when she was stolen away and held prisoner by the malevolent vampire Dragos. After many years of captivity and torment, Corinne is rescued by the Order, a cadre of vampire warriors embroiled in a war against Dragos and his followers. Her innocence taken, Corinne has lost a piece of her heart as well—the one thing that gave her hope during her imprisonment, and the only thing that matters to her now that she is free.

Assigned to safeguard Corinne on her trip home is a formidable golden-eyed Breed male called Hunter. Once Dragos’s most deadly assassin, Hunter now works for the Order, and he’s hell-bent on making Dragos pay for his manifold sins. Bonded to Corinne by their mutual desire, Hunter will have to decide how far he’ll go to end Dragos’s reign of evil—even if carrying out his mission means shattering Corinne’s tender heart.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The solid ninth and penultimate entry in bestseller Adrian's Midnight Breed vampire romance series (after Taken by Midnight) advances the overall story line nicely without detracting from the central romance between two deeply damaged characters. Hunter is now a Breed vampire of the justice-serving Order, but the Order's greatest enemy, Dragos, once trained him to be a mindless weapon, and much of that training still shapes him. Breedmate Corinne Bishop, recently rescued from decades of torture at Dragos's hands, has two goals: reuniting with her family and finding the son she bore while imprisoned. As they fall in love, Hunter has a precognitive vision of Corinne begging him to spare someone's life, wondering whether fate will tear them apart even if they overcome their intimacy issues. New readers should start with book one; returning fans will love Adrian's latest dark and dangerous antihero. (July)

The ninth Midnight Breed romantic fantasy is a fantastic entry in an ourstanding series

The vampire myth began when eight ancient outworlders came to earth and mated with those females who wore a Breed mark because they are capable of baring a Breed male offspring. In time, the sons turned against their evil and cruel sires, but one escaped their wrath and hid in hibernation.

In the present, Dragos imprisoned him and forced him to copulate with Breedmates. The Children of that union were Gen X warriors, who were more powerful than most of the breed. Dragos puts a slave collar on these children as he trains them to be amoral ruthless killers. Dragos' enemy The Order liberates one of his killers Hunter who vows to kill his vicious jailer and his psychopathic brothers. The Order raid a compound and free Corrine Bishop held prisoner by their evil adversary for decades. When she and Hunter meet, there is an instant attraction, but neither can accept the soft feelings; he never knew love only hate and she had love tortured out of her. While fleeing from Dragos' henchmen, Corrine resolutely wants to find her son Nathan, but conceals this from her escort until they make love. Hunter believes Corrine is setting herself up for heartbreak and perhaps death because like him her son is a trained ruthless killer. She persuades him they should try.

The ninth Midnight Breed romantic fantasy is a fantastic entry that is as great as its predecessors (see Taken by Midnight). The story is told from multiple viewpoints; readers will find especially refreshing and fascinating understanding how a breed feels when he enters the Bloodlust stage before he turns into a mindless Rogue who cares only about drinking human blood. The Adrian vampire mythos expands as series fans will appreciate the meaning of Home.

Assassin finds true love..a must read for Breed fans

I have enjoyed all of the Breed series books. They are always well written and Dragos always has a new and crazier diabolical plan to take over the world. I was so eager to read about Hunter. Hunter was the Gen one assassin that was able to negotiate his escape from Dragos a few books back. Hunter now works for the Order and has made it his life's mission to defeat Dragos. Hunter had been raised with out love or affection of any kind yet he was capable of loving Mira, the little girl that he helped rescue. Needles to say It took all my patience to wait for Hunters story to come out because there is nothing better than watching a character that has lived a violent dark existence find true love. The love story between Corrine and Hunter was so bitter sweet considering they were both victims of Dragos and neither of them had ever been loved. I only wish more time had been spent with Corrine and Hunter.

The majority of the book (60%) was spent with us watching Chase go mad with blood lust. Every time I got wrapped up in Hunter and Corrine, the scene would change to something going on with Chase, Dragos or the Order. Don't get me wrong. Dragos is the character I love to hate. I just felt that Hunter's love story was the side plot and he deserved so much more than that. I loved this book but was very disappointed in the amount of time that was spent on Chase going rouge. More time was dedicated to him in order to entice us to reading his book which comes out next year. Hunter's beautiful love story got lost amongst all the other stories to the point that it felt like a novella. The final chapter of the book even ended with scenes taking place with Chase's sacrifice to save the Order (which was crazy awesome). Unfortunately that story felt like it was the main event and Hunter and Corinne were the soup and salad.

This is a must read for all Breed fans. Just when you think that the plot with Dragos is coming to a close, he develops a more sinister scheme.

One of my favorites in this great series

If you haven't started this series yet, get on it! This book is all about Hunter (a bred assassin, forced by Dragos, his creator, to wreak havoc). If you're a fan of this series, you know that Hunter is now a warrior of the Order. I love this book because it picks up right after the last book left off. I won't say too much about the storyline, because I don't want to give away any of this magnificent story. There are so many wonderful characters to love and bond with in this series that it'll be hard for you to pick a favorite. For me, this book is one of my absolute favorites in this series. Lara Adrian, please, please write a little faster. Waiting until the next release in 2012 may just kill me!

I have to say that I was completely in love with Hunter's character ever since he was introduced, and I couldn't WAIT for his story.
I was utterly disappointed when I read this book.  After waiting so long for this story and expecting something epic, the lackluster three-part story that was in this book left a lot to be desired.
I felt like this should have been Chase's story part one, because that's what it felt like.  With Hunter's background, even Corrine's backstory, there should have been enough for them to cover most if not all of the events in this book.
As usual, the author is extremely insensitive to the amount of time it takes for her characters to get over the devastating and traumatic events that happened to them and with the way they 'fall in love' so quickly, just diminishes from the story.
Hunter's love should have been amazing! He should have had someone who was full of life, with a lot to offer someone like him. Someone who would open him up and help him grow.  Corrine understandably could have been this person, except for the fact that she was a prisoner for over 70 years of her life, so you can't really expect that personality to stay intact.
Even if she was to grow into that person again, at least give her sometime to get herself together before you just throw her emotionally unstable person onto Hunter.

I'm EXTREMELY disappointed because I don't believe that Hunter got the attention he deserved in his own book.  I feel that the author was rushing his story, in order to set-up everything perfectly for Sterling Chase (who I'm not really a fan of and could care less what happens to).

This story does absolutely no justice to Hunter, with it's lackluster storyline and poor execution for everything Hunter.

If Chase/Harvard is the character that you've been waiting for, then by all means, DTM is just a really long prologue for Harvard's up and coming book.

~Sorry Hunter, better luck next time.

Not giving Hunter his due time is a real let down.  If Adrian wanted to let us know what was going on with Chase she should have made the book longer.  Just a cameo here and there would have sufficed. The book was almost 3/4 over before Hunter even made any kind of physical connection with his mate.  After all he had to suffer and all his mate suffered it was disclosed is just a few sentences.  I believe we should have been on their personal journeys to recovery more often in this book.  They already shared a lot in common so the healing should have been the main focus and the bonding, both  mental and physical.  Think about it. Hunter has never touched a women.  This was down played if you ask me.  And what women after being raped and abused for 72 years is REALLY going to just fall into someones bed, mate or not.  I like Adrian's writing but sometimes it did seem like someone else was doing the writing.  When did Hunter develop a language with profanity?  One minute he is speaking without contractions and the next he is using slang.  The language changes alone should have at least been explained.  And Corrine never gave a second thought about her mother who had raised her even after finding out it was just her dad who betrayed her.  Her character was too cold and simple for my taste.  I like that she does accept Hunter and lets him in but the way it is done is just not believable.

    Does not Disappoint!

This is by far my favorite series and this is no exception! I was hooked from the first chapter. Sometimes series tend to get stale as they go on, but Lara really knows how to keep it fresh and exciting! I am already dying for the next installment...going to be a long wait until the Spring!!!

    Okay

I have enjoyed Lara Adrian's Breeds Series, and this one didn't disappoint, but it wasn't that great either. With the exception of one surprise (which I won't spoil for you) the book was predictable. I finished it in a little over 2 hours. Hunter is a good character, but it felt like this book was just an extra long prologue to the next book.

    LOVE HER BOOKS!!!!

I love all of her books. They are very well written and very mind capturing. I came across her books sorta by accident. I have an ebook app on my phone, and her first book, Kiss of Midnight, was being offered for free for a limited time. It was a romance novel so I decided to download it. I started reading it and it was ok. Then it hit me that it was about vampires. I was like oh my gosh more vampire books? Since the Twilight thing was getting on my nerves. But it really surprised me! I enjoyed it so much! Then when I found out she had other books, I bought them all and read them. The series is wonderfully written and it really grabs me. I cant wait for Deeper than Midnight to come out! June 28th cant come any faster! lol!!

By the time I got to the last few chapters I couldn't put it down (especially the last few pages). This book includes Hunter finding his mate, Harvard battling his blood lust, and an increasing oncoming war with Dragos. The book let you know there was something huge coming from Dragos against the Order. I had my guess of what Dragos might have planned but I was way off and never saw it coming. What a HUGE cliff hanger!! Really good installment in the series, can't wait to get to the next one.
