Children's Literature - Susan Treadway M.Ed
This is one of many books in the "AnimalWays" series, which include insects, ocean life, spiders and more. Topics here include deer anatomy, evolution, habitats, behavior, classification of diverse types, environment, interaction with humans, and endangered status. Lesser known species are also highlighted, which will delight readers. Full color photography and diagrams enhance friendly discussions that focus on deer around the world. The author provides little known facts with generally understood information that will promote further exploration for middle schoolers. Segments within chapters are not lengthy but are still thorough. Historical elements are appropriately mixed with stories from current experts. After the contents listing there is a basic animal kingdom chart with additional reference features such as a glossary, a species checklist, sources for further research, a bibliography, and an index. This series would compliment both academic and pleasurable endeavors. Reviewer: Susan Treadway, M.Ed
