Defenders of the Family, by Benjamin Hyrum White, has quickly become one of my children’s favorite books. The first appeal for my boys was, of course, the picture images of super heroes. What little boy or girl doesn’t want to be able to be a hero? The pictures throughout the book, done by Jay Fontano, are fun and easy to comprehend, and bring excitement to learning about how we can all be defenders of the family. I love this book because it takes the principles and doctrines from The Family: A Proclamation to the World, and puts them into language that children can grasp. The topics range from God’s Plan of Happiness, to gender, to marriage and children, to ways to follow Jesus Christ, to spousal partnership, to families being together forever, and more. We have read this book at bed time many times since receiving our copy, and it will be a favorite for a long time, I am sure. The best children’s books are not only entertaining, but also filled with little lessons for children and adults alike. This is one of those books. LDS or not, if you want you and your children to be defenders of the family, check this out. *I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. ablisscomplete.com
The family is SO IMPORTANT and it is being attacked. Learn how to FIGHT BACK with this WONDERFUL book! Fun illustrations keep even the youngest child engaged. Will you stand up and become a defender of the family? It's easy with the help of this book-- Every family needs a copy :)
I loved reading this book to my kids. It was a great way to show how important it is to be a defender of the family especially in these scary times. I loved how simple it was and how it was a children’s version of The Family: A Proclamation to the world. I also felt like a superhero after finishing it. Also, it was a great tool for those preparing for baptism. The illustrations were fun and exciting. The pop of colors were perfect and caught my eye. I was definitely into each page of Defenders of the Family and recommend it to everyone. We all need this book to remind us of the importance of families and Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness. Thank you Benjamin for writing this amazing book. It was fabulous!
I feel that it's important to defend the traditional family and this is a great book to explain to children what that means and how to do so. The book is set up in a comic book format, which is appealing to kids and adults of all ages. I love how simple the text and explanations are. The words are easy to understand and the pictures are bright and colorful and really bring the thoughts to life. Each page focuses on a different aspect of what someone might do to bring strength, loyalty, and courage in today's society to defend a long-standing plan. I love how the book relates to superheroes--it's easy to relate to and to show kids, especially, how powerful they can be when they can do good things to uphold the family. This is a perfect book for families, but especially for those younger members. *I received a copy from Cedar Fort Inc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I loved the illustrations and how White made it simple for little kids to understand. When I received my copy in the mail, Rhys helped me open it and was excited to see that it was a book. He sat by me and let me read the entire thing to him. I am so glad that I have this book on my shelves now for my children as they grow up. It's also a perfect book to take to Sacrament Meeting for your kids!
