Overview

Have you ever wondered how a trial lawyer can sleep at night after helping a client he/she knows is guilty, beat the legal system? I have. Have you ever wondered how an attorney would feel if that same recently acquitted client kills a second time? Again, I have, and these very questions prompted me to write a dark mystery/thriller about just such an attorney...I call it DEFENDING EVIL.

Travis Knight is an extraordinary Criminal Defense Attorney winning high profile cases in Atlanta. One of his recently acquitted clients kills again, which has Travis and his wife Julie, questioning what he does for a living. Travis is shaken to his core, but being a consummate lawyer, he is able to move past his feelings of guilt; Julie isn't.

In a bizarre twist, a mysterious vigilante begins executing Travis' clients after he wins them an acquittal. This righteous vigilante decides that the clients Travis is helping to put back into society are guilty, and don't deserve to live--the vigilante delivers ultimate justice.

The police only half-heartedly search for the vigilante-off the record, they are glad someone is cleaning-up after the hot-shot attorney.

The vigilante's attention turns to the source, and sends Travis an ultimatum--stop defending guilty clients or he will be the next to be executed. Risking his life, and his marriage, Travis refuses to be intimidated, and continues to defend clients accused of murder.

This story chronicles the labyrinth of high-speed twists and turns of a deadly cat-and-mouse game...a game that can end with only one winner.

Buckle-up and enjoy the ride!

I enjoyed reading Chuck's first book. I just downloaded his second and look forward to reading that too. A good story - decent plot, intriguing twists, etc. I don't know if it's the download or the Nook, but many times a word in the middle of a sentence would get chopped off, as in: Right in the midd le of a word the re would b e a line brea k. Annoying... but this seems like a Nook problem, or an ePDF or ePub or whatever problem. But something to look into. Nitpicker that I am, I noticed a few grammatical errors, misspellings (especially Berretta that should have been Beretta), unnecessary capitalizations (it's "scotch" not "Scotch"... unless it's a brand name like Macallan...), maybe too many commas (but I'm not an English major, so I wouldn't swear to it), and way-too-many-hyphenated-words. But them who am I to complain... you'll notice that I am heavy on the ellipsis... ... ... ... :) There was one error... "past" versus "passed" where the wrong word was used... Page 97... "The trial had just past the two-week mark". "Past should have been "passed". The funny thing is that this caught my eye because I'd just finished reading Harlan Coben's first book immediately before starting this one, and he did the SAME thing. So you're in good company. A good omen, perhaps. But enough of my nit-picking... It was an enjoyable book. I'm still learning how to use this Nook gizmo, and I'm glad that I found this huge volume of affordable books! Excellent start to your writing career. May yours be as successful as Harlan Coben's.

I really did not enjoy this book. The characters were not that intetesting and were too superficial. The plot was just so so, and again, not very in depth. If you are looking for fast paced and exciting, then pass on this book.

I had a hard time staying interested in this book. I usually rapidly consume books in 2-4 sessions. This one just plodded along for me. It was ok but the words and scenes seemed flat. I never cared about any of the characters. No suspense over the big reveal - saw it coming from a mile away. I won't be looking for the author's other books.
