Highly Recommend - Brought happiness back to our home!

A note of great thanks Dr. Riley for his book. It has literally changed the life of our 6 year old girl and her family. After 2 years of chaos: tantrums, nastiness, hitting and more, we were all miserable. We could never have gotten control without your help. Our little girl is now so much happier. Continuing to use this book as our guide, we can see a future of happiness for us all. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Five-Star Advice!

This is the BEST book I've ever read on defiant children. My youngest son is now 15 and I've read dozens of books, taken him to 2 psychiatrists, and he's been on numerous medicines. I found out he's not ADHD, he's DEFIANT! THis is not a medical condition, in MY opinion, it's a social condition. I found my son ALL OVER this book. I was just shaking my head with amazement. I used the principals of this book, and read it 3 more times, and he's doing a 180! He's getting straight A's and hasn't been arrested for 6 mos. I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with their defiant teen.

A very effective book for parents.

This book has a no-nonsense approach for parents stuggling with difficult or ODD kids/teens. I have read many books on this subject and this book is short, easy to understand and is of great support for parents. My daughter has had these developing problems starting from age 10 through her current age of 14. I have used this book frequently to help manage her defiant ways. It has been a wonderful tool of strength for me. She is getting better with therapy and by using behavior management tools at home and school. This is a must-read book for parents in this situation and not expensive at all for the knowledge you gain. Thank you Dr. Riley.

    Now I might Survive

For years I've turned myself inside out dealing with my son, who's now 17. Or rather not dealing. At one stage he began physically attacking me. I wish I'd had this book ages ago. I feel in charge of me, for a start. I realise now that he may have completely messed up at school but is actually clever enough to twist our conversations and find all my Achilles heels. This book helps you to 'get smart' in YOUR behaviour when dealing with an O.d.d. person and therefore bring about some modifications in their behaviour. Since they don't know you're doing it, they are less likely to throw up the usual ubearable opposition, and so you feel empowered. Perhaps the best bit is that the book gives hope (and tells us parents to give ourselves some time too!).

This book is easy to follow and clearly describes the behaviors, causes and effective remediation approaches. It is a must read if you have an oppositional child. Very helpful if only to better understand what you are facing, but truly gives many useful methods for correcting the behaviors.

    Very informative

This book is very informative, easy to read, and comprehensive. With the many real-life scenarios, it was easy for me to identify similarities and differences of these behaviors in the children I know. I feel I have a much better understanding of this disorder after reading the book.

A Waste of Time and Money

This book does nothing more than show defiant children that their parents can throw bigger uglier fits than they can and get away with it. How are you supposed to teach your child respect without treating them with respect. The author is punitive and closed-minded.

    A reviewer

Best book ever, every pediatrician should recommend this book as well as day care providers even when minor issues come up. It would have saved me lots of heartache. Dr. Riley is great in person also, if you live in Hampton Roads area.

    Excellent

I only wish my daughter's therapists had shared this information. It might have saved our family from years of struggle and misunderstanding.

MUST READ for parents of a defiant child!!!

As I thumbed through the pages I could not believe someone had written a book about my child. I have never felt so 'NOT' alone in my life. This book is easy to read and very easily applied to everyday life.

    EXCELLENT!

I gained more useful information, support and real-world techniques from this book than I did in many, many in-person pysch visits. The author truly knows what he is talking about, from real world experiences, not just text book theories. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone dealing with an ODD child, it is the best resource I have found yet.
