John Denver was a hugely prolific singer-songwriter, and anyone wanting to become familiar with his work is likely to find his vast pile of music a bit intimidating. Definitive All-Time Greatest Hits is an excellent place to start. Containing some of his best-known songs, it also manages to capture the depth and width of John Denver's musical history and abilities. And while some of his live recordings may occasionally illustrate the verve and humor that characterized his performances a little better than those created in the studio, the songs on this album, all studio tracks, are so sharp and clean in their sound that they could almost be live.

I recently watched John Denver on PBS - and realized how much I have missed hearing his music. My previous cassettes were lost along the way with many moves. This CD is full of old favorites and a few songs I had not previously heard. There is something about John Denver's music that makes you feel everything is going to be okay.

Placing the word definitive on a best-of collection is usually a panicked label attempt to fill last-minute Christmas stockings, but in the case of RCA's Definitive All-Time Greatest Hits John Denver retrospective, it's a truly apt description.
