Overview

New York Times best-selling author Caroline Myss draws from her years as a medical intuitive to show that healing is not only physical; it is also a mystical phenomenon that transcends reason.

Inspired by ordinary people who overcame a wide array of physical and psychological ailments—from rheumatoid arthritis to cancer—Caroline dove into the works of the great mystics to gain a deeper understanding of healing’s spiritual underpinnings. Based on these studies, she demonstrates how conventional and holistic medicine often fall short in times of need. Both systems rely upon a logical approach to curing illness when there is nothing reasonable about the emotional, psychological, or spiritual influences behind any ailment.

Integral to this mystical healing approach is the engagement of the soul, which we experience through exploring our seven shadow passions, building an empowered inner self around our seven inherent graces, and learning how to work with the mystical laws that govern it. This knowledge holds the key to understanding what it means to defy gravity and break through the boundaries of ordinary thought.  You can heal any illness. You can channel grace. And you can learn to live fearlessly.

Editorial Reviews

Even many orthodox physicians assert that healing is not only physical; a significant psychological component is involved. Medical intuitive Caroline Myss goes far beyond those admissions. She asserts that conventional and holistic medical treatments are sometimes doomed to failure because they don't address the possibility of mystical healing. In Defy Gravity, she invites readers to engage their souls by exploring their seven shadow passions and building an empowered inner self around our seven inherent graces.

Another outstanding work by Caroline Myss! If you are a "mystic out of a monastery" with the desire to serve God in both visible and invisible ways, then this is the book for you, added to the shelf with her other great works: Sacred Contracts, Invisible Acts of Power, and Entering the Castle. A must read for any spiritual sojourner intent on transforming our Earth with grace and divine power. Caroline, with her practical, "no nonsense" approach to spiritual service, takes typically esoteric stuff and grounds it for the ordinary person to apply to their day-to-day life.

The book was immensely readable, but there was nothing really new. In fact, compared to previous books, the questions were not as good. While touting the need to become more interiorly connected and less reasoned in our approach to health, the questions were very much reason based and evoked the mind more then the spirit. The chapter on spirit was the best in the book, but it, too, was not as good as some of her other books.

I've love love her very early works, before she became this world famous spiritual teacher. You can sense from her voice, a humble, gentle person who had inspired millions of people including myself! Especially her "Spiritual power & spiritual practice". But ever since last year presidential election, Caroline has changed to this sharp tongue, partisan, opinionated political person who writes articles on HuffingtonPost.com and their news paper, criticizing all Republicans parties, candidates or anyone who is not supporting the democrats party because their political views is not the same as hers. I feel that she is not living what she preach! You are an spiritual teacher! You should rise above all these political madness and use your power and inspirational words to bring people together! Especially during this trouble time, instead of clam people's anger & differences on the health care bills that just past, she writes many articles to add the oil into fire to make people more partisan and angry! Caroline, I am so disappointed by the direction you took. I think you were a wonderful spiritual teacher when you just started many years ago, maybe your success and ego has finally got to you! Please bring back the old Caroline Myss we love! Not this political driven, sharp tongue partisan columnist! If you are republican, or not agree with the health care bills that just passed or the direction of our country is heading, go to HuffingtonPost.com and type in the search section of Caroline Myss you'll see what I am talking about!
