CriticasGr 2-5-A young girl becomes confused when her mother tells her that she is too big to do certain things and too small to do others. Along with her favorite toy, Helena takes a fantasy journey in which she learns just what her mother means, and discovers her own place in the world. The premise of this tale should strike a chord with children, who have felt exactly like Helena. Machado is especially gifted at getting to the heart of the way children think. This story has been lovingly translated from Portuguese, and it retains the simplicity and elegance of the original. This will appeal to children who want to read chapter books in Spanish.
