Meet the Author

Laura Restrepo nació en Bogotá en 1950. Se graduó en Filosofía y Letras en la Universidad de los Andes y posteriormente hizo un postgrado en Ciencias Políticas. En 1983 fue nombrada por el presidente Belisario Betancur miembro de la comisión negociadora de paz entre el gobierno y la guerrilla M-19. Trabajó para la Revista Cromos y fue editora, entre otras publicaciones, de la revista Semana, actividad que alternó con la escritura.

Con la novela Dulce compañía, en 1997 resultó ganadora del Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz de novela escrita por mujeres, que otorga la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara. Ha sido merecedora además del Prix France Culture, premio de la crítica francesa a la mejor novela extranjera publicada en Francia en 1998, y del Premio Arzobispo Juan de Sanclemente 2003, otorgado por los alumnos del Liceo de Santiago de Compostela a la mejor novela en lengua española. Su anterior título, La novia oscura fue seleccionado para el Discover Award en 2002.

Laura Restrepo figura entre los autores latinoamericanos más destacados del momento, y sus libros han sido traducidos a más de una docena de idiomas. En la actualidad vive en Bogotá, donde acaba de ser nombrada directora del Instituto de Cultura y Turismo.

    El triunfo del amor en un mundo de mentira y muerte

    Nuestro club de lectura recién discutió la novela de Laura Restrepo, Delirio. Otra novela de amor en medio de la horrible realidad del crimen y las apariencias en Hispanoamérica, como lo es El baile de la Victoria de Antonio Skármeta. Esta novela sobre la locura, el mundo de la droga, las clases sociales, el sexo y sus aberraciones, el rol de la mujer, la religión... trata sobre todo del poder del amor y la entrega a la persona amada. La técnica narrativa complica la identidad del autor, a la Cervantes y García Márquez. El estilo imita el de Saramago, aunque no tan bien logrado, lo que un poco aproblema la claridad y comprensión de la obra. Hay mucho dicho y otro tanto insinuado en esta novela. Sospecho que 'el cajón de los secretos' no se vacía del todo. Es, sin embargo, una historia atrevida, fascinante, y reveladora, cuya intriga nos mantine interesados de principio a fin. Y aun después de terminada. Hay que releera, como a toda buena obra literaria.

    El placer de leer en español

    Este es uno de los libros que hace que el lector experimente el placer de leer en español. Así como la novela picaresca fue lo mejor que produjo el Siglo de Oro español, esta obra de la novela 'sicaresca' hace parte de lo mejor de la narrativa española de hoy.
