In the number one New York Times bestseller Deliver Us from Evil, Sean Hannity brings his trademark blend of passion and hard-hitting commentary to the continuing War on Terror abroad-and liberalism at home. Tracing the disgraceful history of appeasement from the days of Neville Chamberlain and Jimmy Carter to the unrepentant leftists of the modern Democratic Party, Hannity reminds us of the menace of widespread attitudes of accommodation, and he pays tribute to the great leaders who have defended our country with strength, moral clarity, and courage. And in a new afterword on the 2004 election, he reveals why the Democrats imploded and the president prevailed-while urging Americans to stay the course and remain vigilant about the twin dangers of terrorism abroad and liberalism at home.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Conservative Fox Television news host and bestselling author Hannity sees behind the ills of the world one cause: evil. And so Hannity joins the "neocon" chorus, positing that totalitarian regimes, such as Hussein's in Iraq, Hitler's Germany and the former Soviet Union, serve as breeding grounds for evil, thus justifying President Bush's policy of pre-emptive action against countries that could threaten American interests. Despite "irrefutable evidence," Hannity writes, today's liberals inexplicably doubt that "absolute evil truly exists," and instead foolishly cling to the idea that the world's problems might arise from social, psychological and cultural differences or from economic inequality. Fans of Hannity-Christian conservatives in particular-will no doubt embrace this straightforward call to arms. Many readers, however, will find Hannity's "irrefutable" evidence to be anything but, and his selective use of history and circular logic raise far more questions than it settles. Two final chapters examine what Hannity considers to be the dangerous, partisan policies espoused by the current slate of Democratic presidential candidates. For our democracy to survive, Hannity argues, we must root out terrorists and defeat evil totalitarian regimes before they can harm us-a theme that will no doubt play loudly this election season. Chapter One

Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism

Three years ago, evil surfaced in the Western world in a way it had not in six decades, since the day of infamy at Pearl Harbor. Americans were forced to confront pure human wickedness in a way we had not in generations. And in that moment we rose as one nation to the challenge -- led, fortunately, by a leader who had the clarity of vision to recognize that evil for what it was, and to rally America and the world against it. Even many of the most committed liberals seemed to have their compasses reoriented in the face of that unmistakable act of war and crime against humanity.

But nearly three years have passed. And in the intervening time our wounds have healed, our senses and memories dulled. The nation rallied behind its leader long enough to expel the state sponsors of evil in Afghanistan. Yet by the time the confrontation with Iraq presented itself, our courage and moral certainty seemed to fade in the face of partisan bickering and posturing. We toppled a murderous dictator in Iraq -- and yet now the political left and the Democratic Party are trying to use the demanding aftermath of the war to exploit our national cause for their own political advantage. How could we allow ourselves to forget so soon?

I decided to write this book because I believe it is our responsibility to recognize and confront evil in the world -- and because I'm convinced that if we fail in that mission it will lead us to disaster.

Evil exists. It is real, and it means to harm us. I believe this strongly, and not just because of my Catholic faith, although that's the root of it. When you work in the news business, you deal with the ugly side of life. Every day across your desk comes story after story about man's inhumanity to man, from mass murderers to child molesters to mothers who drown their children to husbands who murder their pregnant wives. These stories push the limits of our ability to imagine man's potential for depravity, and yet they are horrifically true.

Still, isolated events like these pale beside the pure evil of September 11. How could anyone witness the horrors of that day, or the mass graves discovered in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein, and dismiss the idea of evil? And yet many people do -- most of them political liberals. Even when they can bring themselves to acknowledge the brutality of a venal tyrant such as Saddam Hussein, they qualify it. "We are not deny ng that Saddam is a repressive dictator," they say, "but we don't believe we should have attacked Iraq without giving him more time to comply with the U.N. resolutions." For the appeasement-minded liberals of our country, there's always a "but."

It's difficult for liberals to see such moral questions clearly, because most of them are moral relativists. They reject absolute standards of right and wrong. In their worldview, man is perfectible, human nature is on a linear path toward enlightenment, and the concept of sin is primitively biblical. In their view, society's unfairness compels people to break the law. To them people like Saddam and Osama bin Laden are not morally depraved murderers, but men driven to their bad acts by the injustices of Western society.

The emphasis is always on giving bad actors -- domestic and foreign -- the benefit of the doubt, never on personal accountability. After all, if we can blame external circumstances or internal imbalance, then we can avoid the messy business of calling the evildoers to account. This kind of thinking s all too familiar from our courtrooms at home. The justice system today is crawling with "experts" eager to exonerate the most heinous criminals on the grounds that they're "genetically predisposed" to murder, rape, take drugs, or otherwise endanger the welfare of others; the media fills its airwaves with liberal advocates eager to sympathize with murderers on death row, instead of the families of the innocent victims.

The trouble with tolerating evil, of course, is that while we're averting our eyes, the evil itself only grows and festers around the world. This has been true throughout history. Neville Chamberlain assured a wary England that an appeasement pact with Adolf Hitler would lead to "peace n our time."Cold War liberal elitists ignored or downplayed the atrocities of communism, from the gulag of "Uncle Joe" Stalin to the killing fields of Cambodia. Bill Clinton stood idly by while Islamic terrorists attacked American targets throughout the 1990s, in a long prelude that should have alerted us to their burgeoning war on America.

The primary evil we face today is terrorism. But we will never triumph over the terrorists until we realize that groups like al Qaeda are not working alone. Wthout the deep pockets of terrorist-friendly dictatorships like Saddam Hussein's Iraq to support them, the loose networks of Islamic terrorism would pose only a fraction of the danger to civilization they currently do. And those dictatorships, we must realize, are the same brutal regimes that have oppressed their own people for generations.

As President Bush has declared, we can no longer wait around for terrorists to attack us. We must take the war to them, rooting them out of their swamps and destroying the despotic regimes that furnish their lifeblood.

But the president also warned that this would be a war like no other. It would be fought on a variety of levels, against a largely invisible and unconventional enemy. Sometimes our efforts would be conducted out in the open, for all to see; at other times, though, they would be as invisible to the public as the terrorists themselves ...

Plain hard facts the Liberals do not want Americans to know....

Why would liberals rate a conservative book they've never even read? Mature! This is a really good book and anyone who watches Hannity and Colmes (the 2nd highest rated cable news show, behind the O'Reilly Factor..take that liberals!) understands why Sean is such a likable guy and gets his point across and wins nearly every argument he has with guests. This book never got boring for me and kept me wanting to read the next page.

I thought the book was kind of average. Hannity doesn't do a very good job of citing his sources, and often neglects to distinguish between opinion and fact, but no one could have done as good a job of producing a great reader commentary as he did. Go Sean/Shawn/Shon/Sheawn!

You can't argue with the truth and hard evidence. There really is not much else to say about this book other than it proves points. No other books bring out facts like this one. Do your own research if you don't believe him...I did.

Fun, fast and informative read. Not boring like a lot of political books can be. Sean also backs all of his ideas and points with facts so it doesn't come off as right-wing opinions. The book also lays out some very important things to consider if you really want to keep yourself and America safe from terrorism. It will help you understand the very real dangers that exist in your everyday world.

Sean covers the topic as no one has including so-called major media. Our Nation is under seige and we must be ever vigilant to protect our freedoms. This book outlines the dangers in detail.

This book was brilliant and enlightening. I highly recommend it. It's funny how the bad reviews are written by people who didn't read the book. So fearful of someone expressing a different opinion. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid people.

I loved this book! I am a big Sean Hannity fan. I listen to his radio show and watch him on 'Hannity and Colmes' nightly on Fox News Channel. Democrats definitely are stirring in their seats after reading this one. If it were possible to convert Democrats over to our side, this book would be the instrument in doing so!!

A hard hitting look at what America is facing in the war on terror and what must be done to stop the spread of evil. This book is riveting and gave me so much food for thought. Provocative and enlightening. I enjoyed every word.

This was an outstanding book from cover to cover and slams the door on supposed 'free thinking' liberals every where! Liberalism isn't just an alternative way of thinking... it's also a cancer that is destroying the very fabric of this once great nation. Liberlism if left unchecked will lead to the ultimate down fall of the United States and the slavery of her people. This book will inform you of the attacks and methods of liberalism and how it all got slipped into the main stream of thinking. Don't miss this book... and pay no mind to most of the 'one star' ratings... it's quite obvious a great percentage of them did not read the book.

Hannity has the most important thing going for him, his knowledge of the past and the founding of this nation. He begins the book with correct form by referencing the founding fathers and their take on the government and democracy they created. He creates a 'ladder' through the book connecting various moral ideas with a good amount of fact sprinkled in. As his timeline advances he focuses mostly on the 20th Century and how great presidents destroyed communism and Hitler. He consistently hits his points: there is always right and wrong, no grey area, tolerance is the lack thereof, and america's intrest sometimes has to be defended or enforced by force. Hannity is a huge conservative BUT you can't argue with truth and in this book truth is what you get.

I was really moved by this story. For the people that gave it one star, well all I have to say is, nobody is perfect. Don't let the people who gave this book 1 star fool you. This was an excellent book and I couldn't have written it better.

'Deliver Us from Evil' is a wonderful history book. It reminds us all about the evil in the world by reviewing what happened in Hitler¿s Germany, Cold War Communism, and Saddam¿s Iraq. Many today forget these lessons and want to appease current evil by looking the other way or trying to negotiate with them. Sean illustrates that evil exists and we need to be prepared militarily to fight for Democracy and American freedom at home and around the world. Please read this book! Could be entitled ¿What They Don¿t Teach in History Class.¿

Excellent, well-written book reminding us all what our beloved country stands for: liberty! When will left people understand that liberal politicians could give a rat's ass about them---they are in it for themselves only--- political gain at our expense! I know this book was written quite a few years ago but it is still relevant today, especially in these times. It is so much worse now in the middle east, russia and asia that ifwas ever a time we need to be one strong united nation it is now! Unfortunately we have never been so divided. The terrorists and other enemies are sitting back and watching us destroy ourselves with obama's blessings. If hilary clinton gets in we are done! Come on, fellow americans, read this book and come to your senses before it is too late!
