Demon Gates is a story about a meek young son of a horse breeder who is suddenly thrust into a series of events that could easily shape the future of the world he lives in.
The premise is the evil demons that once have ravaged the world have been locked away into the Void. Ancient Loremasters managed to lock them in their prison, with formidable seals preventing the Portals from becoming active. However, the seals are failing, and the demons have once again entered into the world to wreak havoc.
Not being a big fan of darker fantasy, or demons for that matter , I was very pleasantly surprised to find myself swept away in a story which was very expertly told, deftly weaving several storylines together with a skill that I truly envy. The author has created an extensive world with believable characters, nasty creatures, and picturesque locales.
For once, I don't have to wait a bit for the next book in the series to be released. I know book two, Ashar'an Rising, has been released. I've already purchased it, and it's now sitting on my iPod, ready to go!
This book is a tremendous read, at a very reasonable price. I encourage everyone who loves fantasy to give it a try! Robert, you're a helluva writer!

Well told story that left me wanting more. I will be getting the next one.
Now for the "but". Several times a plot line develops, only to just go away "offstage". This feels like almost a cheat, and is annoying.

Not usually my kind of story structure. I like to stick to one character and follow it. Here, there ofens chapters from a different character's point of view. Other than this rather minor personal preference, I very much enjoyed it, though it was a bit slow getting into.

This is a well crafted story with a main character that evolves right
along with the story line. The characters are all believable and
engaging. I like that it is not just about sword play but also involves
the interaction of the characters to solve each crisis. This is one of
the best written epic fantasy story i have come across in awhile. it is
a great read and I can't wait to get to reading the next episodes.

Wow. 946 pages. Robert Day has a new number one fan. The artistry in which he draws you into this masterful new world is breathtaking. Humans, trolls, dragons, elves and dark elves, demons and devils, and everything in between. Our hero Val suffers and overcomes tragedy on the grandest scale, only to find it is just the beginning of his suffering for a grand quest to save his world. With his sword, a little magic, and alot of skill, Val tries to overcome stacked obstacles in his quest.
This is book 1 of the dark nexus series. I only put it down to sleep and eat.

An exceptionally well crafted story. If you like adventure complete with trolls, elves and other mythical creatures you will enjoy this epic fantasy on the scale of The Lord of the Rings with engaging characters and exciting battles and swordplay. Highly recommend to all fantasy lovers. Don't let the length discourage you. Me, I'm off to buy part two!

I always wonder what I am going to get into when I get one of these self published books. I can say, more often than not, I am disappointed, many times not finishing a book. This time I can definitely say, this WAS NOT one of those times. I was very impressed by the story line, the descriptive wording, the flow and the character development. I think that my biggest surprise of all was that Mr Day had to self publish. Give this a chance and I guarantee, you'll buy the next book. Highly enjoyable!

Love the story and the characters. Only complaint are the amount of characters that are introduced but then too quickly killed off or sent out of the story for seemingly no reason. Still I am looking forward to the next book.

If you love fantasy, magic or for those of you eho are gamrrs of World Of Warcraft, Everquest, etc. Then you will love this book. Mr. Day makes you feel as if you are part of the story. For the diehard fantasy/gamers you can picture the characters and the towns. A must read. I loved this book and cant wait to read the second of the series. Mr. Day please keep this series going! Thanks for the great book. A new fan - Barbara Risinger

Downgrading this because it is SO gory. It's a shame, because it was well crafted and written. I can't stand really explicit gory stuff, and this book was more than I could take.
