Overview

Welcome to the world of the succubus.

She visits your dreams, or she visits your bed. She is sex incarnate: hot, irresistible, and oh so willing. Willing to seduce you, or to destroy you—whatever feeds her needs of the moment.

Join us in this collection of tales about succubi and their encounters with human lovers. Thirteen authors share their vision of the succubus, the legendary creature who feeds on sexual vitality and energy from her victims. Must an encounter with a succubus always be deadly? No—but it is always memorable, for the person she takes into her embrace has something she wants and cannot live without.

Revenge, redemption, loss, lust, desire and love are some of the places these stories will take readers as each succubus reveals a facet of her unique existence.

Genre readers of paranormal romance, urban fantasy, fantasy and science fiction will find gems to delight in in this collection. Authors are a mix of new voices and established writers, including Mary Roberts Rinehart Award nominee Diana Pharaoh Francis, two-time Nebula Award nominee Jennifer Pelland, Deborah Teramis Christian, whose work has been considered for the Tiptree Award, and Laura Antoniou, whose Marketplace series has been lauded as setting the standard for contemporary SM erotic fiction.

Buyers of this book will also receive a free bonus ebook of succubus lore and history, a $17.95 value, as a thank-you to our new customers. See the Demon Lovers book site at http://www.demonlovers.info for offer details.

Meet the Author

Editor and author Deborah Teramis Christian has been writing stories since she could first string written words together. Se broke into novel-scale print with her debut science fiction novel Mainline, which made the Locus short list for Best First Novel in 1997. She has authored three novels and after an extended absence from writing has reorganized her life to permit a full time writing career.

Her short story “Live Fire” in the No Man’s Land military science fiction anthology was considered for the Tiptree Award in 2011. Also in 2011 she released a full-length fantasy novel called Dragonsword for free on the internet (see http://www.dragonsword.info to get a copy). As of 2012, a semi-sequel to Mainline called Splintegrate has been delivered to the publisher and is in the process of becoming a book.

Her current work in progress, Queen Victoria’s Transmogrifier, is an alternate history Victorian paranormal. Her contribution to this anthology collection is a prequel short story that takes place in the Transmogrifier setting.

Teramis first planned out the Demon Lovers anthology series in 2008, and is proud to be able to present the work of so many talented authors in this, the first anthology she has edited.

I started reading, expecting some form of erotica -- not a low-brow "smut" read, but something erotic, none the less. What I got was something entirely different. In stories from award winning, estalished, authors and from newcomers to the world of published works, I read stories that explored so much more. Erotica? Oh, there was erotic subtexts in som places. But the characters, the reasons, the "why" was so much more important to the authors than the mere "what" of the Succubi actions found here-in. Why do men (and women!) seek them out? Why do Succubi seek out their victims? I finished each of these stories with a mental "Wow!" followed by a long pause as I drank it all in.

Read this collection. You won't regret it.

If you are a fan of erotica and paranormal books, this one is for you! A collection of short stories all involving succubus relationships with humans, this one has it all to entice readers of dark fantasy and adult love scenes. This a very steamy read! I'm a fan of Lilly Cain, and particularly enjoyed her prequel introducing characters to an upcoming novel I can't wait to get my hands on!

    Find some Succubi to love...

On June 1st, 2012, a new anthology of stories about Succubi was released called Demon Lovers: Succubi and the work contains a total of thirteen stories, all related to, or about, Succubi... It is the first book of a series called Demon Lovers, and is to be followed by another volume which focuses on the myths and legends of Succubi called Succubus Lore & Legend and a second anthology work called Demon Lovers: Incubi. The authors in this anthology are very well known and each brings their own views and concepts of Succubi to this work. It gives a fascinating mosaic of what Succubi are, what they desire, and what in truth they are to themselves and to others. It is not erotica per se. No, what this work is takes you from what you expect Succubi to be, beings of passion and eroticism, and leads you towards what is hidden beneath that veil that few ever see...

The anthology is well balanced, has a purpose and a direction to it that I think all of the authors embraced in their works. I do wish that the stories were slightly longer as there are many open doors, paths, and directions for them to take.

Some will go there, it's made quite clear in the anthology that they are, but for those that aren't I find that a bit of a shame... There are a lot of wonderful universes to play in here and I hope that someday there will be more to come.

Overall, the anthology well rates five out of five pitchforks for the care, the joy, and the abilities of all of the authors to make their characters come alive. And as I finished this collection, my thoughts turned to the next work in the series and the hope that the authors involved in that work can create as wonderful stories as well...
