Meet the Author

Meljean was raised in the middle of the woods, and hid under her blankets at night with fairy tales, comic books, and romances. She left the forest and went on a misguided tour through the world of accounting, banking, and a (very) brief teaching career before focusing on her first loves, reading and writing—and she realized that monsters, superheroes, and happily-ever-afters are easily found between the covers, as well as under them, so she set out to make her own. Meljean lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and daughter.

    Great series so far!

I liked this one even better than the first. It was great to get a look at the characters of the first book in their future roles.

    Really Good

Wow!! This was a wonderful read, and feautered great writing, witty dialogue and interesting characters. Overall I'd say this was a wonderful read with only minor exceptions and would recomend this to anyone who is into the whole paranormal romance genre, especialy those looking for something to read while waiting for the next BDB book. The characters really made this book. For someone who doesn't particualy like the experianced heroine, and Salvi proclaims that she is a few times, I was surprised by how much I liked her, mainly because it was a normal part of her background and not something the author created to define the heroine, which is what really annoys me with many books I read but that's not important. Salvi is not cookie cutter at all, she's well developed and realistic, and very human in a book where most people aren't. The hero Colin made the book, the author describes him on her site as a vain beautiful vain vampire, and he was, and loved him for it. He was born in the regency era, and in many ways reminded me of a regency hero, in fact of all the romances I've read about immortals his is the believable character I know, he really felt like someone who came out of a past era. There's nothing sexier then a regency hero in the modern day, Colin has proven that. Salvi and Colin together is also wonderful for they have a great ability to banter and their conversations were able to do something for me that I find harder and harder, make me believe that they are two people deeply and love, I didn;t have to make myself believe in their story, the story made me believe all by itself. While overall I enjoyed the flow and pacing and the pros of this book I found it at times difficult to follow. Sometimes the way the author described events or problems had me confused as if she'd left something out, at times I read scenes not really knowing what was happening. Still it didn't effect the book to much and only lost one star for it.

    I Also Recommend:

    Interestingly new series for myself

I had the pleasure to read one of Meljean Brooks shorts in an anthology I had purchased and quickly got hooked on her Demon series. It has a great plot, good characters who do show up in the various other books.

The angels are not fallen but not in heaven either, so here on Earth they watch out for the 'good' guys-- humans-- whilst Demons do try to make the humans do the bad stuff. Of course there are rules for the Demons and this is why the angels are here.

Her characters do have humor which is a plus for me in books like this for it can't all be 'loving' and vampire gloom. or Paranormal Gloom.

I would recommend this for anyone who does read Paranormal series as it just fits.

The love scenes in this book were too hott to handle. I had to put on fireman gloves to handle the book through those scenes. However, I have read many paranomal romance books before and this story is the hardest to follow each character and their significance. I was constantly confused by who has what power, who is a vampire, who is a guardian, and what happens when blood from different creatures mix etc. I wished there were more clarification on the different beings in the story and their significance. But overall it is a good and interesting book which I recommend.

    Outstanding!

I loved this book. The romance was beyond anything I have ever read. Sweet, sad, will they or won't they be together. I must agree with another reviewer that parts were confusing. You had to stay on top of this book. It was not an easy read. I surmised that you needed to have read Demon Angel to understand parts of this book, but for some reason, it did not deter my interest. I loved it!!!!

A unique freshness to the romantic fantasy realm

Although he knows cross species romances are usually doomed, vampire Colin Ames-Beaumont is attracted to human Savitri Murray from the first moment he saw her. Even though he knows there are rare times that forbidden relationship works due to the courage of the participants, he realizes that can not be for him because even vampires believe his unblood is tainted with the curse of Chaos.---------------- When she swallows nosferatu blood, she becomes ill with a nasty life threatening fever, but remarkably recovers. The blood of the undead has left Savi with incredible physical anilities unheard of for a mortal. Colin decides he can at least share a friendship with his beloved until she finds her mate. However, Savi has doubts any male human can keep up with her enhanced physical skills nor would they want too besides she wants Colin, but fears telling him will end their friendship. When a demon from Chaos threatens both of them, they team up in love to battle their powerful adversary.----------------- Savi brings a unique freshness to the romantic fantasy realm especially the star-crossed romance between vampire and mortal. The story line is action-packed from the onset, but fully driven by the relationship between the lead couple who bond when the demonic peril assaults them. Sub-genre fans will appreciate this creative return to Brook¿s world (see DEMON ANGEL).---------- Harriet Klausner
