    I Also Recommend:

Demon is a wonderful and thought provoking book

I just finished reading Demon: a memoir and found this book to be thrilling and thought provoking. The premis of the book is a editor/writer who is contacted by a demon who wishes to have his memoir written and pubished. The main character learns through his meetings that the story,in the end, is about himself and not the demon. This book helps readers see the fall of Lucifer, the creation of Earth and humans, and the way man kind falls short of God's intentions for us in a way that is completely differnt than the one that we are exposed to in church. Seeing all that happened from the point of view of a demon or fallen angel is thougth provoking and brings a new level of understanding as to why evil exists in this world and why the Devil is intent to keep going after believers.

This book is one I would highly reccomend to a church reading group as a study book or to any Christian who wants to see the story of creation in a new light. Dark, dramatic, and filled with wonderful character who are memorable. This book is not a light read and causes the reader to stop and digest what they have just learned.

Good reading to all who decide to give this book a try!

    Demon: is a page turner

I loved this book. I could not wait to read it when I got home from work and even got up early before work to finish reading it. It is full of mystery that pulls the reader along. You are able to identify with her characters well and you are easily sucked into the tale. This book made me think a lot and asked me to look at some of my fundamental beliefs about God, humanity and angelic creatures. I would recommend this book...in fact I have, mine is loaned out and I have bought a couple more as gifts!!!

    Great read!

Intriguing. Tosca Lee drew me in with her masterful writing. The first scene in the Café immediately captured me. The description was amazing. I actually felt like I was in there with Clay. She does a fantastic job throughout the book pulling me into her scenes with the description and the dialogue.

Oh, how my heart broke for Clay on so many different levels as I followed him on his journey. Tosca Lee was able to draw me into that character very well.

This was my first experience reading Tosca¿s work, but I see myself reading all her future projects as well.

    Demon: A Memoir

Clay, a harried book editor, recently divorced and dealing with his own emotional upheaval, stumbles into a small café near his office. Wanting nothing more than a quick meal, he is irritated by a man who claims Clay is going to write ¿his story.¿ His attempts to dismiss the man fail, and he finds himself drawn into circumstances that will change his life forever. The stranger, Lucien, isn¿t a man after all. He¿s a fallen angel ¿ and he wants Clay to hear the story of his life.

And so begins a strange encounter that will take Clay places he didn¿t think existed. Lucien, who appears in many different guises, explains the fall of Lucifer and his Legion. He reveals the inner thoughts of dark angels, caught between a desperate wish for forgiveness, and anger at the God who has turned His back on them. Their fury burns even hotter against creatures they feel are nothing more than mud creatures - yet are the beloved of a Father they will never have access to again.

Tosca Lee has captured the anguish of the fall and the darkness of separation from God in DEMON: A MEMOIR. Lucien¿s dialogue is heartbreaking, disturbing, and frightening. And Clay¿s humanity will touch every single reader. This book is a masterpiece of fiction. It¿s hard to put down and impossible to forget.

    An Amazing Journey

Not only is this book beautifully written it is a timeless classic of God's love for the human race. Everyone knows about the creation of Earth, the fallen Angels, and Jesus, but this novel, with all the imagery, brings it closer to home and makes it real. It is such an amazing journey, not only for the main character, but for the reader who comes to understand the Christian faith better. An awesome read.

Not what I expected...a delightful surprise

Here¿s a disclaimer: I am not a big fan of Christian fiction. I read it, but not often and usually reluctantly. Usually, the story seems to arc with someone becoming a Christian and the author uses that to solve all the tension. Not this time. These characters were real to me. I was disappointed when the book ended¿not because of the ending itself, but because the book ended. The author never sacrificed plot to make her point, and yes, she's making a point. But not at all the point I expected. This is not a guidebook to spiritual warfare or how to fight demons. In fact, this book is more about me and about God than anything else. And the plot is wonderfully creative. The description and scenery were all for a purpose, not just gratuitous sense of place, but parts of a well-crafted story. As the main character worried about how his book would end, I wondered too. I was completely satisfied with Tosca's choice, if not a bit surprised. I didn¿t see it coming. The author allowed me to like Lucian, the demon in the title, for most of the book, without defaulting to an easy hatred one might expect in Christian books. I think the evil was more believable because it was not repulsive and ugly. I kept wondering, why is he doing this? Is everything as it appears? And while I never imagined I might ever read a book about Eve, I must say I can¿t get enough of this author's writing. So I am planning to buy her next novel when it comes out.

    A Modern Day Classic...

I would call 'Demon: A Memoir' such a well-weaved and thought-provoking story that it deserves a place on the shelves of every Christian and especially every vocational minister of the Gospel. Although some may object to any literary license being used to add a backstory only hinted at in the Bible, Tosca Lee's research and writing show her great care in keeping things well grounded and entertaining. As Gregg Fraley says in his novel 'Jack's Notebook,' we learn so much better when an entertaining story is added to something being learned (consider Jesus' parables, too), and Demon is the plan of salvation all wrapped up in an awesome literary form. When you finish the book, you will realize that while Lucian's story is ultimately about Clay, Clay's story is ultimately about you.

Once you read this book, a stranger just happening to know your name will never seem so innocent! Interview with a Vampire was never as enthralling and captivating. Tocsa Lee has you wondering if this is really fiction or a personal experience!

    Riveting and Thought Provoking

This book was riveting. The story drew me in from the first page and I didn't want to put it down. Ms. Lee's descriptions brought the characters, setting and events to life. However, I was disappointed with the ending. The crux of the plot and resolution of the key conflict were left hanging. Ms. Lee uses vivid images and word pictures wonderfully in this narrative but leaving the end unresolved seems to me to defeat the purpose of writing this type of novel. Despite the lack of resolution, I did find this book to be an accurate commentary on humanity and society in America. We are easily distracted and the enemy can and will use that to his advantage. I cannot recommend this as an uplifiting narrative though it does make the reader stop to consider where energies and attention are focused in our limited life-span on earth.

Caution! Use extreme care when you read this book. It will rip the spiritual blinders off of your eyes and reveal truths that you knew, but may not have truly understood before. Demon: A Memoir reminds me of The Time Traveler's Wife in some ways because of how Clay never knew when Lucian was going to show up, or in what form he would appear, yet he waited expectantly for those encounters with the demon. And how Clay's life started to center around his encounters with Lucian at the expense of everything else in his life will grip you by the throat, while tugging at your heart. In fact, meeting Lucian became an obsession until it robbed Clay of the little he had, yet before he'd met Lucian had seemed like so much. And his regrets multiplied along with his poor choices. Not many people are handed the stark truth about their spiritual condition--one of total self-centered thinking-- like Clay had been. And for him to receive such a gift from an obvious, yet slick liar, who ironically seemed to care about Clay and at the same time despised him, is extremely compelling. This story will dredge up emotion in the reader for many reasons. While Demon is not considered a suspense, it's definitely suspenseful. And the layers and layers of insight peeled away as Lucian tells his story will blow the reader's mind. Guaranteed. The Scriptures make more sense with Lucian's perspective thrown in. Like... Why do bad things happen to good people? Does anyone deserve happiness? And...is there any person who good enough? Demon: A Memoir now ranks as one of my all time favorites, especially when it comes to the impact it has had on my emotions, my relationship with Jesus, and the way I see the world. Kudos to the author, Tosca Lee, for writing such a powerful and truthful novel.

    A lost treasure.

Demon: A Memoir was a lost treasure on my computer for a while. I downloaded it as part of a giveaway before I even had an eReader. I just figured since I enjoyed Tosca's other book, Havah, I would enjoy this too.someday.when I finally got an eReader. Then I bought an eReader but forgot I had the book. Many months passed. Then I just happened to search by file type one day...

Anyway, now I've found it, and I've read it. Enjoyed it. I found the writing great, the story well thought out, and the characters memorable. There were some touching scenes and some chilling moments.

As in Havah, Tosca did a superb job of presenting ancient events (events that have been told countless times before) in an interesting and unique way. I love how she paints things. I loved the glimpses of a writer and editor's life she integrated into the story. Loved how she illustrated the demon's perspective.

That said, the book didn't have quite the same pull for me as Havah did. Part of that, I'm sure, is because I was more distracted reading this time. Another part, I think, is because the demon's history, while depicted uniquely, is still a review of things I'd heard or read before. (In Screwtape Letters, and the like.)

Overall, though, it is a really good book. A great one to loan to those on the fringes of belief. I recommend it.

    I Also Recommend:

Well Done, Fast Paced Page Turner

Tosca Lee in her new book, "Demon A Memoir" published by B&H Publishing Group explores the stories of the Bible, especially the fall from Heaven from a fallen angels point of view.

How would you feel if you stayed late at the office to meet an appointment and then found out that this appointment was not meant for you and you should have gone home hours ago? Well you arbitrarily decide that you don't want to face your apartment and walk through the rain to a restaurant for something to eat when a stranger waves you over. He tells you he has been waiting for you and even ordered your dinner for you. Despite your protestations that you do not know him he starts to tell you all sorts of intimate details about yourself and begins to fascinate you. He tells you he has a story that you will remember in full detail and you will write it down and have it published for all the world to read.

This is the story of Clay, a man whose life is falling apart, an editor at a publishing firm who meets a fallen angel or demon named Lucian who may or may not be Lucifer himself and this story the demon tells, while it is his story, he claims is also Clay's story.

"Demon A Memoir" is not only a fascinating story but it is a page turner. Just like Clay we want to find out more of the story that Lucian has to tell as they meet in various places and Lucian is in various forms. This is the story of Lucifer's fall from Heaven along with one third of the host of Heaven. This is the story of creation, the fall of man and his redemption through the blood of Jesus. Clay learns that he along with mankind are prized possessions of God's who are greatly loved can be forgiven and can have a relationship restored through repentance and faith in a risen Lord. Ms. Lee does an absolutely terrific job of telling us this story and keeping it so aligned with the stories from the Bible. I recommend this book highly.

    A thrilling tale

If you've ever wondered why the devil and his demons are evil and why they go to all the trouble to wreak havoc in the world, Tosca explores this very concept in an imaginative and terrifying way. Clay, an unpublished writer, is stalked by a demon named Lucian who wants to tell his story - you know, the one that started before time began. Before long, Clay is hooked, wanting with every encounter to get to the crux of the matter and find out why Lucian is so determined to get his point accross. By the end of the book, the tension peaks as Clay must discover how the demon's story is connected to his own life. Demon is a thrilling tale that will leave you, the reader, with a search of your own.

    Tosca thrills!

Tosca Lee's work, Demon: A Memoir is a story surrounding the character of Clayton, or Clay for short, and his interactions with a demon. This spirit has a story to tell and Clay needs to hear it. His career as a book editor may depend on it. But what does this spirit want to tell Clay? Everything.

Clay is recently divorced and lives his life day to day like any of us, but one night changes everything. That night he receives a notice for an appointment by one L. who never shows up, but as Clay leaves work and stops for a bite to eat a man greets him and tells him that there is very little time left. This man is not just a man however, but a fallen angel, or demon, called Lucian. Lucian tells Clay, "I'm going to tell you my story, and you're going to write it down and publish it." With such simple words begin a grand adventure into the story a demon has to tell you. Lucian meets Clay again and again, and Clay cannot seem to do anything but write everything down he hears and everything he sees in each meeting. Lucian weaves a tale of heavenly perfection and glory and the rebellion that blackened Eden, of the creation of humankind and God's ultimate sacrifice for the salvation of all who choose him. Clay realizes however, that it is not Lucian's story he is writing down but his own.

Tosca Lee tells us this story within a story in such an elegant manner, a great compliment to the work of the great C.S. Lewis when he wrote The Screwtape Letters. It is the tale of deception and of the glory of God in all of his works. The story of all of our failures and temptations and how yet our God chooses to love us yet as we do not deserve it at all! Many a reader will read this book and come out finally knowing what a demon really is. It is one of the best descriptions of what a demon is within our world and also seems to recall the imagery of J.R.R. Tolkein in his epic tale The Silmarillion. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about demons, but more importantly to those looking for a good read. I enjoyed Demon: A Memoir from start to finish, and was enthralled by the storytelling ability Tosca Lee has. Look for this book the next time you go to your library or to a local bookstore and pick it up for yourself!

Tosca Lee is the author of the critically acclaimed Demon: A Memoir, a ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year silver award winner and 2008 Christy award finalist. She earned her degree in English from Smith College, is an international consultant, and was first runner-up to Mrs. United States.

Maybe the least important aspect is how the demon feels, which is what propels the story--therefore making it the most important. Let me explain, through the demon's story you will find your own.

"Demon: A Memoir," by Tosca Lee, is one of those books that make you think. The title's strong; it will draw you in or make you run away. If the title turns you away I urge you to read specifically about what led Lee to write this novel. The questions she asks are ones that you'll wonder why you've never asked yourself. If it draws you in, let it continue to work its magic. This love story that God is so intricately writing, Lee retells in a way that you probably have never heard nor read; from the view-point of a demon. Maybe the least important aspect is how the demon feels, which is what propels the story--therefore making it the most important. Let me explain, through the demon's story you will find your own. Lucian, the demon, is ravenously jealous over God's love for humans who mess up repeatedly. This is why "it" wants to tell this story through an editor. The editor, who is cleverly named Clay, becomes wholly enthralled into this task. In the end he faces an ultimate decision, the same as us all. Clay symbolizes every one of us-- those who have heard of God's love, of his sacrifice, and those who have not. Either way we all must make the same choice, or choose not to make it, that's still a choice. I urge you to make the choice to read this book.
