Overview

If she’s a tree fairy, how come he’s the one with the wood?

Afterglow, Book 2

Detective Cheney Fisher is used to the back-of-the-neck feeling that tells him he’s being watched. When attorney Pandora Jackson strides into the precinct, he’s the one doing the watching—and drooling. Her mile-long legs and fiery hair encase a sharp legal mind and a body he’d like to de-brief.

Despite his effort to keep his powers on the down-low, Pandora knows that Cheney is uniquely qualified to solve her problem—evaluating a strangely unfriendly bit of evidence from a court case. But it’s her instant attraction to the detective that scares her. Any loss of control and her powerful Fae ability could consume her, body and soul.

A suspicious fire in Pandora’s apartment drives Cheney’s suspicion that she’s being stalked by a very real threat. Bringing her under protection is the only option, even though proximity means there’s no way to fight the searing passion erupting between them.

Cheney’s instincts are spot-on, though. A madman with a taste for unnatural selection has a plan for Pandora. The only way to fight it is trust themselves, their powers…and each other.

Warning:Refrigerate after opening. This book contains scenes of magic, illusion and scorching hot fairy sex. There are also a few murders, a super sexy cop, a giggle or two, and a tip of the hat to Mother Nature. It is, of course, fiction, but was written using 100% organically grown words.

Meet the Author

Wynne Hayworth loves to write—and to laugh. Writing books that make her chuckle is both a pleasure and one of her lifetime goals. Marriage and motherhood are both valid sources of humor, but when she got a chance to create her own world and play in it, she grabbed it with both hands and dived in, clutching her keyboard tightly. A bit of a multiple personality—she also writes as Sahara Kelly—Wynne periodically disappears into her Afterglow environment and spends many happy hours twisting adventures and characters into complex plots. It’s an ever-changing world and one she hopes will keep her busy for some time to come. “Demons are a Ghoul’s Best Friend” is Wynne’s second book in the Afterglow series.

    Fantastic Read

Afterglow: the term used to describe those who have some genetic difference, now that the world realizes that there more things than mere humans among them. Detective Cheney Fisher is one of these "AG's" with the ability to create illusions. When attorney Pandora Jackson approaches him for help with a request for his help, she has no idea where this will lead. And she has a secret of her own, one she would rather not reveal. As they grow closer, thing become more dangerous, and soon things become downright deadly for both of them. Especially when Cheney and his partner realize there may be a link between what is happening now and a series of grisly murders they have been investigating. Can Cheney and Pandora find out who is behind all of the vicious activity? Can Pandora open up and learn to accept her other self, and let Cheney in too? Can they stop the evil from spreading further?

Wynne Hayworth has created a marvelous alternate world, where normal no longer matters, and where supernatural and human work side by side. I enjoyed the gritty, fast paced style of this story. It is a detective story, sort of a "who done it" with secrets and hidden agendas, and lots of action. The characters are unique and fantastic, and no one is left out.

Pandora Jackson is a successful attorney. She is smart, strong and determined to hide her "other side"; at least she is until she meets Cheney. It was fabulous that he was able to help her free her inner self. I loved her sense of humor, and her willingness to explore her feelings with Cheney.

Cheney Fisher is smart, handsome and has that edge needed to be a cop. But he also has the talent to create illusions so real, people see what he wants them to. This serves him well in his chosen field, and it is this talent that brings he and Pandora together at first. I love that he was not going to give up on Pandora, and that he was determined to stop what was going on, at whatever the cost.

This is an excellent story, with several surprising twists that I did not expect. It was fast paced, engrossing, and hot is several places. The interaction between the main characters was amazing, and the secondary characters fit well in the story as well. I certainly didn't expect the ending, although I did hope for the happy ever after that Cheney and Pandora so richly deserved. This one has something for everyone, and I recommend it for a good Saturday night read.
