From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Emma Holly, known for her fusion of erotica and the paranormal, brings both to a richly invented new world, the Aedlyne Empire under Victoria. Here the Queen has struck a devil's bargain, allowing the silver-eyed demons known as the Yamish to settle in her slums in exchange for sharing their superior technology. Only later does she find out the secret of the Yamish's unnatural strength -- the drinking of human energy or lifeforce. In the fog-shrouded slums of Avvar, it falls to police officers like Inspector Adrian Philips, enhanced with special Yamish implants, to guard the populace against the hungry demons. The love story begins as an injured Adrian tumbles into the garden of the artist Roxanne, the bastard daughter of a famous singer, and, we find out later, also the daughter of one of the prominent demons. In this highly stratified society, liaisons between classes are illicit. Even as Adrian is fired because of their passionate affair, an enemy of Roxanne's father is determined to trap her and achieve the ultimate satisfaction. Ginger Curwen

    entertaining historical romantic suspense fantasy

During the reign of Queen Victoria, Inspector Adrian Philip enhanced his ability to keep the peace between demons and humans by accepting implants that enable him to have the incredible physical skills of demons for a short time. However, the cost of doing his job better is that neither human nor demon society accepts Adrian as one of them.--- Adrian wanders in a dangerous part of town seeking a missing boy Tommy Bainbridge. He is accosted by a local gang, but uses his implants to escape, but fails to get on the other safe side of the wall. Adrian collapses in the courtyard of Roxanne McCallister, an outcast half-breed. As she helps him recover from exhaustion due to the implant use and the beating from the gang, he realizes that he wants her. However, he knows no woman will have him as evidenced by Christine, his former wife of three months, who walked out on him. Roxanne is not Christine as she desires her patient, but knows no male, demon or human, would want an in-between soul like her.--- This is an entertaining historical romantic suspense fantasy that never slows down from the moment the hero is fleeing for his life in the foggy Avvar slums until the final confrontation with his Roxie and (two buggers). The story line is action-packed and filled with a deep cast, especially the lead couple. However, what makes Emma Holly¿s tale so powerful is that fans from several genres will believe in this alternate Victorian world.--- Harriet Klausner

    Book was Great

I thought the book was very good.. I think one reader stated it had to much sex in it.. The Author is stated to be an erotic writer.. There for sex would be the main focus.. I thought the book had a good amount of Passion and Romance to it.. the Animal Hunger some people feel toward one another.. I would recommend it to anyone..

    I Also Recommend:

Made my chest hurt this was soo good!

My first Emma Holly book was "All U Can Eat" (also excellent) and this one only reinforces my high opinion of Ms. Holly's talents as an erotic writer. The story was very engaging, I totally cared about the characters and the sexual tension was visceral. Highly recommended!

    Read it!!! You'll love it.

I won't tell you the plot, but I will tell you to read this book. Its one of Emma's best. Her description of the entire world (the characters, the environment, their lives, and of course, the sex), draws you into the book and really never lets you go. I would love to read more about this world and the creatures that live in it.

Shoulda ended sooner, but nice fluff

While, hands down, the sex scenes were delightful, the plot was boring. At first it reels you in, but halfway through, she adds things that seem like she's just trying to make the book longer. While I do like Emma Holly, this book fell a little flat for me. Roxanne almost annoyed me, being that she was like multiple people in one and not even in a good, well-rounded character way, more like the author couldn't decide what personality fit best. She is a sexual deviant, a blushing maiden, a bawdy sailor(which is never explained well), a painter and a singer. Her past is never explained well, or atleast your never provided with enough information to fill in the blanks and even more so about her connection with her mother. The addition of her meddling father seem like a story extender rather than a true plot builder. Basically, if your ok with an average , sometimes rambling plot in exchange for some well done sex scenes this is it. Emma Holly seems more like a writer that excels at short stories/anthologies, which have all been very good. Her full-length novels fall short in the plot and character building department.

I love Emma Holly though this isn't one of her best, it is very good

Good character development. The story line was a little confusing at the beginning, but eventually you figure it out. Hot smexy lovin' (as Ms. Holly usually does!).

Could of been a very good read

Could of been, should of been a good read but and this is sad to say way to much sex and not enough action, or excitment to keep the pages turning. Sorry

    2.5 stars

Imagine Victorian London with some modern, even ultra modern technology. Now add in the fact that it is at war with demons and populated with fantastic creatures from dreams, and now you have the setting for Demon's Daughter. A government agent, Adrian, has made himself a deliberate pariah, implanted with demon powers though he is human. Outcast from both groups, when he is injured in the line of duty, his only comfort comes from Roxanne, a half demon woman whose greatest fear is herself. Fearing what her demonic heritage makes her does not stop her from falling for Adrian, but it does give him pause. Consorting with her jeopardizes his career, but also could put them both at peril, thanks to her father, a powerful demon with dark motives. Of course, this is also a highly sensual novel, albeit overly graphic, relying on explicit images rather than emotional, evocative subtlety. With less anatomical descriptiveness, this would be an excellent book, built on an intriguing premise that would appeal to lovers of urban fantasy; and if you can ignore that aspect, it still might be.
