Overview
Four thousand years ago Lord Kakon and his army of demons were forced back to their home planet Naraka by a powerful Druid named Henge. After a long, hard fought battle, Henge and his followers managed to close the gateway between their worlds. But more importantly, Henge succeeded in imprisoning Lord Kakon’s general; the mighty Brabazon into a book called The Gateways to Hell. Without Brabazon’s powers, the demon army were never able to return.
Even though the portal gates were now shut, the fight still continues as some demon masters managed to escape Henge and to this day they wait for the return of their Lord.
A few hundred years ago Zantan Mundeara, otherwise known as The Bookman and Princess Aarla, Daughter to Lord Kakon had discovered that Brabazon wasn’t actually destroyed by Henge as there were lead to believe, but had instead been imprisoned inside a book.
After torturing many high priests’, Zantan and Aarla finally discovered that the only way Brabazon could be released from the magic binding him was for a teenage boy to read from the book. Brabazon would then be able to link with that child taking control of them and breaking free of his imprisonment. Once free he would then unlock the magic protecting the hidden portal at Stone Henge to their home world where Lord Kakon would once again send his demon armies through to destroy planet earth once and for all.
The only problem was that apart from Henge, who hasn’t been seen for three thousand years, no one knew what child held the ability to read the book correctly and have the strength to sustain Brabazon’s power when their minds merged.
For the last two hundred years Zantan has disguised himself as an old man pretending to be a book salesman handing The Gateways to Hell over to teenage boys in the hope that he had found that special child. To this date the only outcome was for each child to be left brain dead, until now…

About the Author
James Parkes was born September 9, 1978 at Alexander Hospital, Harlow Essex. He grew up in a small town called Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
James spent most of his youth playing or watching football and anyone who knows him would have heard the story of when he was watched by a Tottenham Hotspurs scout and scored a hat-trick. He was told by his manager that the scout was very impressed and that he would return to watch him again. To this day he is still waits his return…
Growing up James wasn’t the greatest of readers and struggled when having to read out loud in class, which at the time put him off books all together. Apart from football his other passion was watching movies - especially Star Wars, which was a major influence to his creativity.
In 1990 he went to John Warner Primary School, which he spent most of his time messing around and getting into trouble. Even though he liked English, he never had any plans of becoming a writer, but he still loved creating fantasy characters in his spare time.
Even though James enjoyed writing from time to time, it was his love for music, which really inspired him to write on a regular basis. As for growing up in the 90’s the most popular music at that time for any teenager was Hardcore. That was when it became clear that he had a gift and would spend hours each day writing lyrics and practicing to mc. It wasn’t long before he was recognised for his skills and finally fulfilled his dream when he was 18 managing to grab hold of a microphone at one of the biggest rave events in the country to show off his talents.
Teaming up with two DJ friends they set out to make it to the top, but unfortunately as they were starting to make progress the scene started to fade and eventually the microphone and the pen was put to rest.
Leaving school James didn’t have a clue what he wanted to do, so following in his mum’s footsteps he became an office administrator.
From the age of nineteen to twenty six James lived his life like anyone else, spending time going out and partying, but it wasn’t until he spoke to a beautiful girl from O2, whilst dealing with his companies mobile accounts - when his life took the biggest turn. It was love at first voice!!
After spending many hours speaking over the phone and many fake mobile phone problems they finally met up and fell in love.
Eventually James waved goodbye to his hometown and moved to Leicester and that was when his love for writing was reborn.
It was actually his fiancée who ignited his passion after giving him a Darren Shan book called Demon Thief, which at the time she didn’t realize that it was aimed at teens, but James really enjoyed the book, especially the style of Darren’s writing, which inspired him to get to work on his own ideas. It was at this time that James had been looking for work after moving to Leicester and had a lot of spare time between interviews, which gave him the time to get started.
The book was originally going to be called Evil Beneath, which was going to be a one off adult book based on a demon amongst a group of friends. Although the more he wrote, the more ideas stirred from within and that single book started to change into a series. The books name was also completely altered, along with the attended audience.
With the Harry Potter books going global and vampires and werewolf’s becoming extremely popular again, James could see a place in the market for his own book series, and decided to write for the younger audience.
Being a huge fan of horror and fantasy books/films he decided that I wanted to create a series of books that would combine all the best elements from cult classics as he believes there hasn’t been that epic series that would compare to the likes of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings in this genre. He didn’t want to write a book solely based around vampires, werewolves, zombies, which has been written over and over again. He believes in being unique and wanted to do something that would stand out, with a huge range of characters to follow throughout the books, which would include your traditional cult monsters, dragons, soldiers, demon hunters, druids and just your average human playing out their own story in the fight for survival.
Demons & Legends was born and 2013 James completed the first book in the series called; The Bookman and has now begun work on a few short spin off characters and the 2nd book in the series Stones of Henge.
Hopefully in the next coming years James will be able to give up his day job and fulfil his dreams of being a professional writer.
