Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
So much of shojo (girl's) manga falls under the sway of one single emotion: longing. This series ruthlessly cultivates and exploits this innocent desire. After the death of her older brother, high school student Teru Kurebayashi is the only surviving member of her family. But before dying, her brother gave her a cellphone with which she can contact "Daisy," a mysterious man who acts as a sort of cyber-guardian angel. While Teru and Daisy text each other messages--those from Daisy are filled with gentle, kind words of encouragement and support--the young, thuggish, school janitor, Kurosaki, suddenly recruits Teru to help pay off the repairs to a window that she broke. Kurosaki is a cranky, shiftless, character who spends most of his time smoking, playing mah-jongg, and belittling Teru. Despite their antagonistic relationship, he always seems to be around when Teru needs help. Motomi uses a deft hand at composing the narrative, arranged with soft expressions and swaying flowers, while turning typical tricks of the shojo-manga trade on its head (a scene of gently falling flowers turns out to be a scene where Kurosaki is trimming trees). As a character, Teru is sharp and courageous, and gives as good as she gets. (July)

    Absolutely Worth it

Yet again, Motomi hits the nail on the head with this one. With just the right amounts of touching moments and funny antics from the lovable characters, this is really an amazing read. If you are doubting buying this book, don't. It is perfect for every reading level, whether you are a novice manga reader, or running out of manga to read, and it will take you through an emotional roller coaster right along with the characters. Definitely worth buying and reading over and over again. ^-^

I recommend "Beast Master", also by Motomi, and just as good.

Wonderful! Needs more than 5 stars!

Once again, Motomi strikes again with a wonderfully thoight oout series! With the perfect balance between comedic moments, touching moments, and serious moments, Dengeki Daisy will have you obsessed after the first book! I know, I know, I sound corny and monotone, but I am an avid fan of all of Motomi's work, especially Dengeki Daisy and Beast Master! Take my word for it and don't hesitate! It's a great series! I can't wait for volume 8 and all of the other volumes Motomi has in store!

    Great shoujo manga

Motomi Kyousuke is a master when it comes to capturing ones heart in a shoujo manga! The plot is pretty cleaver, and its original yet familiar at the same time. All characters are likeable and the pacing is pretty good... if you're aspiring to be a manga artist you can learn from Motomi-sensei. Also check out Beast Master if you enjoy her work!

What a sweet story! It just makes me want to smile and laugh and cry all at the same time. It makes me feel the perfect combination of every emotion under the sun. The characters are fabulous and the art is absolutely beautiful. I really admire books like this because they have a little bit of everything in them: comedy, tragedy, mystery, and romance. Kurosaki is the anti-hero that every anti-hero dreams of being! He can be such a jerk but is always there in the end when Teru needs him. Shojo Beat has always had the best of the best manga and this is no exception. I will definitely continue with this series.

    Must read

Another manga series I started reading. Been reading a lot of manga lately. The story's about a girl that works with a 18 or is it 20 something janitor, thanks to breaking a window. All the while checking her phone for e-mails from her dead brother's friend known as "Daisy." Who could it be and will she ever meet Daisy?
