Preventive dental care and the effects of sugar and diet are studied, and modern dental repair is examined. Smoking and Health covers the addiction and effects of tobacco smoke on various body systems of the smoker, nonsmoker, and fetus. The history and cultivation of tobacco are described, and its place in Third World economy is examined. The books are lavishly illustrated with color photos, drawings, and diagrams that further clarify and greatly supplement the text. Glossaries and indexes are complete and useful. Alan Nourse's The Tooth Book (McKay, 1977) offers similar dental information without the attractive illustrations. Silverstein's So You're Getting Braces (Lippincott, 1978) expands upon the subject of orthodontics, which Ward only touches upon. Those wanting information on quitting smoking, specifically for teens, should be referred to Curtis Casewit's The Stop Smoking Book for Teens (Messner, 1980; o.p.) and D.
