Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Azfar Siddiqui, BDS, MSc (University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine)
Description: This book covers the legal and ethical aspects of treating patients in a dental office.
Purpose: The author targets the book toward dental students and dental practitioners. This is an important topic, and good understanding is necessary for a successful career. Because this topic has not been previously addressed in a proper manner, this book certainly fills a void by providing a good reference guide.
Audience: The aims of the author have been achieved. The author and contributors are all reputable in their field of expertise.
Features: There are a few black-and-white illustrations that are easy to understand and well conceived. I believe that a few more tables would increase the understanding of this subject. The references vary from chapter to chapter, but in most cases they are of good quality. The overall appearance of the book is simple and professional. The index provides a good guide for finding a particular subject of interest.
Assessment: This is good-quality book that will be useful for its intended audience. It will also be useful as a reference guide in dental schools and libraries. Many important issues have been addressed in this new book. I believe that it is an important contribution to dental literature.

Booknews
The first book addressing ethical issues for dentists, such as treating people with AIDS, confidentiality, advertising, problems shared by dentists and hygienists. Also discusses whether people have a right to dentistry, and the moral implications of the relatively low number of women and minorities in the profession. Annotation c.
