Editorial Reviews

David O. Staats
This monograph comprehensively reviews depression in later life. It is the second edition of a book whose first edition was published in 1982. This edition is single authored; the previous edition was multiauthored. The purpose is to demonstrate the current body of knowledge relevant to the clinical care of elders experiencing depression. The audience is those health care professionals providing care and treatment for depressed older persons. The book should appeal widely to psychiatrists, internists, family practitioners, psychologists, social workers, and trainees in the field. This handsome, affordable, compact book has highlighted guidelines, tables, and diagrams. It has extensive, current, pertinent references in an area in which knowledge has rapidly expanded since publication of the first edition. This book is a superb review of depression in older persons written by a leading authority in the field. Because this edition is single-authored, there is a coherence, breadth, and synthesis of an immense amount of new information that should lead to new standards of practice.
