Stone broadens the picture on artists in the French Impressionist clique with this biographical novel on painter Camille Pissarro, the least famous of the Impressionists Stone was to write about. In this book, he offers new insights into the artists' interrelationships, with particularly interesting information about Renoir. A definite 'must' after 'Lust for Life,' which is based on Van Gogh's life.

I had to really search for this book (it's out of print), so I finally located it and dove into it. It is a must read just for the historical significance, but it's also highly enjoyable. If you love the Impressionists, or any fine art, the story will move you and keep you up late into the night reading. If you just love a great story that happens to be true, you will also enjoy this. It's a big book at 700 plus pages, but it's worth it. It would also be suitable for mature kids to read.
