Es werden die Funktionsweisen des schwarzen und des britischen Humors sowie des Grotesken als auch theatrale Darstellungsformen, Übertreibungen und Tabubrüche analysiert und auf Theatertraditionen zurückgeführt. , Abstract: 1969 schließen sich sechs Komiker zusammen, um für die BBC eine außergewöhnliche Comedyshow zu produzieren: Monty Python's Flying Circus. Mit schwarzem britischen Humor und absurden, ungewöhnlichen Sketchen trifft die Komikertruppe in England, sowie bald international, auf geteilte Meinungen. Sehr schnell jedoch bildet sich besonders unter den jüngeren Zuschauern eine Fangemeinde, die Monty Python's Flying Circus hohe Einschaltquoten garantiert und eine Fortsetzung der Sendung über vier Staffeln ermöglicht. Es stellt sich die Frage, was die nonkonformen Darstellungen von Monty Python ausmacht. Sowohl die nicht zwangsläufig auf eine Pointe hinauslaufende Dramaturgie, als auch Tabubrüche und theatrale Übertreibungen des schwarzen Humors bilden eine Besonderheit in Monty Pythons Sketchen. In vorliegender Arbeit wird analysiert, nach welchem Prinzip diese funktionieren.
