Louisa Carmichael has had it. After her boss gives a less qualified co-worker the promotion he'd promised Lou, she quits. But she only makes it as far as her car before panic sets in. At twenty-eight, her entire life has revolved around her career. Who is she without it? Fortunately, Lou has the perfect excuse to avoid facing that question: a trip to France for her best friend's wedding.

There she meets Yves Betancourt, a handsome French man who happens to be the most off-putting person she's ever met, even if she is fascinated by his passion for his work. One desperate, lonely night in Paris, she takes him up on his invitation to meet for a drink. When he offers to be her guide as she retraces the path her grandfather took during his post-World War II tour of Normandy, Lou throws caution to the wind, falling deeply under the spell of the French countryside, food, wine--and Yves.

About the Author

Nicole has progressed from scribbling in notebooks to banging on keyboards, but she’s never managed to stop daydreaming at inappropriate moments.

When not answering the demands of her characters, Nicole can often be found curled up with a good book or spending far too many hours acting the hero in whatever video game is her obsession of the moment.

One of Nicole’s other great passions is travel. She loves being married to a native Belgian, both because she likes the idea of being “The American” and because it gives her plenty of excuses to visit Europe—that wondrous land of coffee, chocolate, pastry—as often as possible.

Michigan born and raised, Nicole lives there with her honorary Michigander/Belgian husband and her two children. A Michigan State University alum, Nicole bleeds green and is a Spartan for life.
