From the Publisher
“Brief but accurate discussions on preoperative and postoperative care, complications, and a general outline for performing the procedures provide an introduction to many different avenues for procedure-oriented dermatologists to explore.”  (Doody’s, 26 July 2013)

Reviewer: Patricia Wong, MD (Private Practice)
Description: This ambitious book covers a vast array of dermatological procedures, including how to treat Dupuytren's contracture and perform facelifts, in 430 pages. The accompanying CD includes 57 videos demonstrating Mohs surgery, laser, chemical peels, liposuction, and dermal fillers.
Purpose: The book is intended to present a step-by-step approach to performing many procedures. There is considerable variation in the depth of detail provided in how to perform the procedures correctly, depending on the author and the procedure.
Audience: The audience is medical students, budding dermatologists, and their paramedical associates.
Features: This book provides a sampling of hundreds of procedures that allow readers to become knowledgeable about the surgical possibilities, giving them an opportunity to decide what may appeal to them based on the videos and readings. However, readers interested in learning how to do a specific procedure would be better served by investing in a book devoted to that particular technique. Beginning techniques such as suturing and performing a biopsy are detailed first. Advanced procedures such as facelifts, hair transplants, liposuction, and laser resurfacing are then covered, but not in a manner that would enable readers to competently perform any of them. The best feature of the book is that it allows readers to obtain a fairly accurate idea of what these various procedures entail. The chapters are typically only 4 to 5 pages in length, so the descriptions are concise. The videos need editing. The surgical segment videos have a loud buzzing noise, and I could also hear opera music in the background that was on fast forward. Unfortunately, most of the videos are silent, lacking instructional narration as the procedure is demonstrated. The narrative for the video on dermal filler injections would be better if the injector discussed his injection techniques.
Assessment: This book and video resource offers novices a glimpse of what various surgical/cosmetic procedures entail. Brief but accurate discussions on preoperative and postoperative care, complications, and a general outline for performing the procedures provide an introduction to many different avenues for procedure-oriented dermatologists to explore.
