Descendants of Darkness, Volume 1: Yami no Matsuei

Overview

As a Guardian of Death, Asato Tsuzuki has a lot to think about. First of all, there are all those dead people. Someone's got to escort them safely to the afterlife. Then there's all that bureaucracy. The affairs of death come with a lot of paperwork, budgetary concerns and endless arcana.

Combining supernatural action with heavy dollops of romance, sex and humor, DESCENDANTS OF DARKNESS proves one thing: Death is big business...and business is ...

Descendants of Darkness is interesting reading.

I began looking for this manga after watching the anime on Syfy. Having read only the first, of course, I cannot tell yet how well the two match, but the cashier who checked out my purchase said that the manga is more detailed than the anime. I am looking forward to answering some questions left in the anime, such as: What did Tsuzuki do as a child that drove him to become a Guardian of Death? The anime suggests that it was traumatic, but never specifies. I am hoping to find out.

    I love this book

This was my type of book it has death, sadness, love, and it is funny as hell. I read one and two and I can't wait for three. This book is about a guy who has to find lost souls. He is drunk half the time but he gets the job done. He is said to be one of the best at what he does even though you would never know, and for a guy who goes around killing people he has a good heart.

    THE BEST MANGA EVER!!!

Yoko Matshuita is a genius. Pure genius. The story, the artwork, the characters - simply breathtaking! I have been waiting for this title forever! I am not kidding you, FOREVER! FInally, when it came out, I ran to buy it and I am waiting for the 3rd one right now...... But refering to what some people said-----The characters are not 'gay'. WHile there are a lot of situations and things that are said such as 'i love you', they are not out-right, so there is room for speculation. Because they spend all of their time together, they become like a family--- and families love eachother. They comfort eachother, hug....things like that. The jokes made in there are just jokes. It's supposed to be funny, cause they are really not going to 'get together' or anything like that. I would love it if they did though! Tsuzuki+HIsoka forever!!! XD

    Fabulous!

I am an avid fan of shonen-ai and yaoi. In terms of anime, Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) is my absolute favorite series. It is a shame it was so short. The manga is one of my top ten favorites. When I found out that YnM's manga was finally being released in English, I was ecstatic! It is a wonderful choice for a fan of shonen-ai, supernatural genres, and the like. Now I am off to find some Hisoka x Tsuzuki doujinshi...

    My first shounen ai!

I'm really up to speed with what titles viz (the publisher) is releasing in the US, and i normally devour any information on upcoming shojo releases, but i didn't discover this one until it was actually in the store! the artwork fascinated me, and the dark plot was intriguing. i have never really read any shounen ai manga, and i have to say that this title proved to be pretty good. the characters in shounen ai (unlike standard shojo) are not perfect; rather, they are greatly flawed, quirky, and in this case gay as well (in a surprisingly masculine way of course)Tsuzuki strikes a great balance between being dark and serious and childish and adorable. even though hisoka is annoyingly cold, and is the standard 'younger kid' in the relationship, hes surprisingly mature and sensible at times. this is a great manga, and i can definitely see why there are so many fans in japan. read it!

    Awesome~

I love this title! I also really enjoy the detail and artwork of the mangaka. It is a bit of shame that Viz bought the rights instead of Tokyopop since the company is famous for super slow releases. The manga series itself is a dark and intricate story with, as mentioned before, beutiful art. Judging from the title, it may seem like a goth-like manga, but there are cute jokes and stories, too. This is an awesome manga!

    I love Yami no Matsuei

I was a little upset when I found out that VIZ was doing Yami no matsuei....I would rather have tokyo pop do it....But If you love the anime then you'll love the actuall manga..The manga is way better I must say..Most manga are. Muraki is like some evil kuwel doctor dude...He is kinda the Yuki Eiri with like tons moe evil...But the thing about the manga of Yami no Matsuei it really isn't that much focused on the yaoi/shonen ai as it is on the mystery suspence part...I personally enjoy it and you must buye it noW1!!!!!!

Yami no Matsuei is the best!

I am so glad that a company has chosen to print this title. I was going to buy it in Japanese and look for translations online, but thankfully that will not have to happen. I just wish that VIZ would hurry up and distribute it already! I also wish that Tokyopop would have bought the rigths for this manga, because then it would have been 100% uncut. But, what can you do? If I had the rigths for Yami no Matsuei, I wouldn't change a single word! I belive in preserving the originality of Yoko Matsuhita's work and not editing her beautiful art and changing anything. Hisoka is so cute!!!

    It owns

Descendants of Darkness, also known as Yami no Matsuei to other fans, is a great manga about the Shinigami(gods of death) who reside in Meifu (the land of the dead). The manga revolves around the two main Shinigami Tsuzuki Asato and Kurosaki Hisoka. And lets not forget Muraki.(I hate this guy >_> For reasons.) This a great manga for anyone who enjoys supernatural dealings and male relationships. Also if you enjoy evil sadistic docotors.. this is the manga for you. It also has a lot more in the story than that of the anime. The anime misses alot and just follows the main arcs. So for anyone who's only seen the anime this will give you more information than the anime gave. It is a very great manga and once you start reading it you'll never want to stop.
