Editorial Reviews

Parent's Little Black Book - Karen Doering
I really enjoyed this book. The story line was new and refreshing, the characters loveable and interesting and the slow reveal of all the mysteries surrounding the protagonists was done with finesse. It is rare for a book to move me to tears but this one did.
Life is what you make it. Don't be afraid to go after your dreams. - Amy Manemann
The first book in the Mystic series was a fantastic read from start to finish. Descension introduces the story of Layla, who begins an epic journey into discovering her mysterious past of where she truly comes from. Along the way, she meets the very drool worthy and magical Quinlan (Quin for short) who shows her the magic she is capable of and also provides a key to her past.
Happy Tails and Tales Blog - Maghon Thomas
I really enjoyed this book. It's written beautifully, and the scenes are described so perfectly I could picture them like I were there. I cannot give you too much, as I would never want to spoil anything for you, but I think everyone should check this out. It's a perfect fairy tale, paranormal romance. :) I'm not sure if this is going to continue as a series, but I sure hope so, as I need more, and there's an ending that leaves room for more!
Author of That Boy, That Wedding & The Keatyn Chronicles - Jillian Dodd
How do I even describe this book? If it was a recipe, I'd throw in some Harry Potter, a dash of Twilight, and a big container of romance and mix it all together and get something delectable.
Recent Reads - Christina Condy
I read this book in one day, unable and unwilling to put it down until I finished the last page and then I screamed in frustration when it ended. I have added this author to my favorite's and that is where she will stay.

I cannot say how highly I recommend this book to everyone. It far surpasses in my estimation even a 5 star rating. But since I can only give a 5 star then that is precisely what I will be giving this beautiful and talented author.

Descension was a story filled with true love, romance, heartache

Descension was a story filled with true love, romance, heartache and magic. Burgess writes a beautiful tale that sucks you in. Her characters are real and down to earth. They never once left me unfeeling towards them and wishing they were more than what they were. I absolutely adored the family kinship, their trust in each other and willingness to stand behind each other no matter what decisions they have made. There was such a unity in the Covens that I was truly impressed with their strong morals and love for each other. The story is well written with a very strong plot that will leave you begging for more. I know I am.

So to start off we have this poor young woman who has just lost her mother and learned she is not who she thought she was. The hardship that Layla goes through is heartbreaking. I found myself hurting right along with Layla and wishing some of her pain would just end. She takes us on a journey where she learns what she really is and who she might become. It was more than just some girl going to find family. Layla has opened her eyes to the possibilities of what could be. It was like watching a flower open for the morning sunlight. Shy and hesitant but once she knew what she wanted she went for it. I loved how Burgess mixes both innocence and discovery of ones femininity. Once Layla learns her true power, I have a feeling some nasty people are going to be very sorry they ever messed with her and her family. Her family, so sad! *sobs* Make sure you have some Kleenex near, your going to need it.

Layla's silver lining, Quin. Ah Quin you are just so dang cute, I just want to squish you. Here is a boy who knows how to treat a girl. If ever there was a gentleman, here he is. He is one of few perfect guys out there, or at least to me he is. He is going on my list of fav book boyfriends. I love how he never pressures Layla into anything, he takes his time treating Layla with a gentle hand. He is supportive of her and makes sure of what is in her best interest. I have great respect for Quin and his family. They are just so true to each other. I do have a question though. Quin can I keep you?

B.C. Burgess has written a novel that will stay in your mind for days after you have finished it. Her story will take you on a journey that will have your emotions all over the place. Once you pick up Descension you will not want to put it down. I honestly can't wait to see where Layla and Quin's story leads. I just hope it is out soon so I can get my hands on it. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy, you won't regret it. Fill your minds with the magic of Layla and Quin. <3

Ok, so one day, I got this cool message asking if I wanted to review this book from the author... I usually don't but this book sounded so intriguing that I accepted. Boy, I'm sure glad I did, as this book was fascinating to me :) I like fun new ideas! Layla is a depressed, boring, monotonous girl. Her friends try their hardest to make her life a little better. I loved the two characters from her diner, which is where the story starts, during her very boring life. :) Then, upon her mother's death, she has some affairs to settle and learns something CRAZY!! She is adopted, and boy was her real family gunna throw her for a loop! In a letter from her dead mother, she decides to take the advice and find her biological family.

Upon finding this, large, but awesome, new family, she finds out she's a witch with awesome powers, her family is very very cool, and treat her like royalty, and she has fallen in love! Magic is awesome! And then she really learns some very sad, but honest truths. I cried, literally, like tears flowing and red faced, and nose-blowing cries. I'm not saying this book is sad, but sometimes sad things happen. I should also say it's hard to make me cry for a book- I can count on one hand the times this has happened... Harry Potter for Dumbledore's death, and then Harry's were two of those times!!

Now Quin, I WANT him, is just awesome. He's beautiful, and hot, and sweet, and caring, and willing to go to the ends of earth for her, literally! He loved her before he knew her, as magic has its ways of putting two people together! :)

And of course, there's bad guys! Argo scares me. Not becuase he is necessarily the most powerful, but because he in completely evil with no reguards to anything byt his wants and needs, and no ones life. He is willing to kill the world to get his hands on Layla, as he wants her power!

:) YAY! 5 PAWS from me!

This is such a wonderful book that kept me reading for hours. This book kept my attention because I could not wait to find out what happens next. I loved how Layla's life changed from being so lonely and not having no family then finding out that she has a bunch of family members and that she is a witch. I enjoyed how the author let us know Layla's parents history and how they met and what happened that led up to Layla being adopted. The only problem I have with this book is that it ended to soon! I want to find out how Layla handles her decisions about her family, her powers and Quin. I sure hope that the author B.C. Burgess releases part 2 of this book soon, because I can't wait. I am so glad that I recieved a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I won't go into details, this is a MUST read and would not want to spoil anything. This story made me laugh, made my heart melt and brought me to tears. I truly enjoyed reading it and am very much looking forward to the second book in the series. Excellent Job, B.C.!!

    Great read

This book was an enjoyable read for me. I loved the family love in this book. Even though this book had a few elements that I have read in other books, it was nothing like any other books I've read. I enjoyed how the story unfolds. Glad I have Impassion already, so I can immediately move to the next book! Love the story!

    5 Stars all the Way

Phew!!! I love this book, series. Amazing imigination by the Author. I won' t give too much away. Mysteries, love that is pure, treasured is threatened by an evil force. A child living without her real blood family, loved very much, until tragedy hits.

She set out to find her family, what she finds is nothing you will reaf about in any othet book. Pure family bonds, love, trusy, compassion. I just let this wonderful Author know that we need more of there bonds, love, family strenght in this world.

Amongst that the romance is spell binding for sure. I cried, smiled and simply felt my heary swell, skip a beat, and could not put this book down....you will love it. I am reading the 2 nd book now and it is sososo good...

I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written and the story grabbed me from the begining. The end of the story left me wanting more, which I haven't decided whether I like or not, in this case. I am definitely ready for the next book, though! I want to find out what happens next.

Oh Em Gee. So, let me start this review by saying, “y’all get your tissues out because this one is a doozy!” Layla, oh Layla Love. The poor girl who has been dragged through the dirt since her mothers death is such a sweetheart. She is sad and hurting but you can tell she didn’t used to be that way. Quin, hot, dreamy Quin. He is way to charismatic for his own good and I’ll tell you what. I would have proposed the minute I met him. The story is touching, following Layla’s internal struggle as she finds out her life was all a lie and she was adopted to be hidden from an ominous, unnamed danger. When she finally arrives in Cannon beach her outlook and her world change. She is thrust into a new world filled with beauty, magic and the horrible truth about her past.

Now I wasn’t planning on it but I read this book in one sitting constantly alternating between wiping a tear and turning the page. The story was so eloquently written I couldn’t help but continue, my eyes craving each word. Every description was magically better than the last. By the halfway point in the book I knew I would not be able to stop until the end. The story filled me with emotions I have never felt from a book, I could feel the unbelievable love of a family and the pain of Layla’s loss. I am trying really hard right now not to spoil anything so let me just finish with. If you like magic, romance, humor, love, adventure, shy MC’s, hot boys or hell just books YOU HAVE TO READ THIS SERIES!!!!!

Reviewed by Alysha Allen for Readers Favorite

Two months after her mother, her only relative and best friend, dies, Layla Callaway is given a check for $773,000 and a letter written by her mother telling her that she was adopted for inexplicable reasons for the sake of her safety. In B.C. Burgess’ "Descension", Layla must either choose to leave the one-horse town of Gander Creek, Oklahoma, to go to Oregon where she hopes she will find her parents and the answers to her perplexing past, or stay working at a dead-end job in a diner. As she becomes enamored with a piercingly beautiful man who guides her to the secrets of her birth parents’ heartbreaking past, she discovers she is the descendant of a long line of magical witches and wizards. Yet little does Layla know a powerful and malignant wizard with burning orange eyes would have her as his own and has since before she was born. Now, knowing she is alive he will only hunt and pursue her relentlessly until he should have her in his clutch.

I know a 21-year old waitress working at a diner in the boondocks isn’t your ideal start to a paranormal romance. But for me, I was only intrigued by Layla Callaway who departs pleasingly from the normal main style of a young adult novel. Travis and Phyllis are our main character’s only true friends, who invigorate the story with their comical quips. I only wish these two animated, well-formed characters could have been more actively present throughout the novel.
As a dear fan of Oregon myself, I fully enjoyed the sublime scenes of lush and verdant, untrammeled nature being described with such aesthetic attention. Despite all these, I found most of the characters to be rather flat, with no singular personality characteristics to distinguish one from the other. There was little in their manner of speaking that would strike me. In fact, the monotonous dialogue quickly became tiresome. Yet I would say that if you didn't get enough romance after reading the 'Twilight' series, this book should be perfect for you.
