Gr 8 Up-Desegregation is presented through various viewpoints, both pro and con, largely from the 1950s and '60s. A general introduction about racial segregation precedes excerpts of original documents from a variety of individuals such as George Wallace, Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Howard Zinn. Each chapter begins with an explanatory preface, a summary, and three questions to consider. Subheads and a few black-and-white photos break up the text. This volume provides an organized format for understanding segregation and integration in the context of the legal and social arguments of the leaders and commentators of the times.-Janet Woodward, Garfield High School, Seattle, WA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
