Overview

Fear And Desire Will Find You…No Matter Where You RunFor Ph.D. candidate Patience Sinclair, leaving the ivy-covered campus of Boston University for the wide, open spaces of Texas means a chance to stop looking over her shoulder at every turn. Traveling incognito with the Triple C Rodeo will help her finish her dissertation on the American West while hiding in plain sight. But she can't hide from Dallas Kingman. The champion rider makes it clear that he's watching her…and he likes what he sees. But everything about Dallas, from his country drawl to his rugged Texas charm, is unfamiliar to Patience. And if there's anything she understands with chilling clarity, it's what it costs to fall for the wrong man. As Dallas and Patience make their way through the heart of the southwest, a series of mysterious accidents turns the rodeo into a nightmare of fear and suspicion. Someone's obsession has turned deadly, and Patience has moved closer to danger than she ever could have imagined…

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Young Bostonian Patience Sinclair and her sisters, Hope and Charity, have vowed to have one grand adventure before marrying or settling into a career. For Patience, a season on the western rodeo circuit, researching historic and current female competitors for her doctoral dissertation, seems both an exciting escapade and a timely escape from spoiled society brat Tyler Stanfield, a rejected ex-lover who's been stalking her. Despite the instant, if prickly, attraction that Patience shares with handsome Dallas Kingman, a World Champion All-Around Cowboy, the pair's commitment to very different careers makes anything more than a summer fling seem impossible. But the two grow closer, even as mysterious malignant forces strive to tear the Circle C rodeo, owned by Dallas's uncle, apart. Passion predominates over intrigue in Martin's second Sinclair Sisters installment (after Midnight Sun), but the suspense serves to keep reader interest piqued as the protagonists agonize their way through apparently insoluble personal conflicts. A parallel suspense subplot involving historic rodeo murders lends the story some complexity, and several side romances and romantic rivalries add considerable charm to this satisfying tale. I liked the premise of this story, and even the relationship wit

I liked the premise of this story, and even the relationship with Dallas and Patience. I loved watching the friendship of Patience and Shari, her travel companion. The life on the road was an interesting on to read about, the ups and downs and from town to town. The hang out and friendships that are made over the years. I was a bit put off by Dallas' sleeping with other women but still having his mind on Patience. If he couldn't get her out of his mind, why the heck was he sleeping with anything that offered? And I didn't really understand why he was so annoyed that she was getting her Ph.D. That was a big point of contention with them, and I don't see the issue. All in all, I thought it was an ok book, I am on the other hand, looking forward to reading her sister's book.

    OohLaLa

Couldn't put it down again. Kat Martin knows how to write a romance novel. The romance between Dallas and Patience was to die for. Could've left out the part about searching the history of dead relatives since they did nothing for the story, but it was still a good read. I wouldn't really consider anything I've read by Ms. Martin as suspense, but definitely a good romance. Loved it, it was HOT!! Can't wait to get started on Deep Blue.

    A must read!!!!!!

Kat Martin has done it again. She writes a great story from beginning to end. I could hardly put it down. The romance between Patience and Dallas is wonderful. The plot is suspenseful. I can't wait to read the last Sinclair sister, Hope's story.

    A Sensual Tale

Desert Heat by Kat Martin is the story of Patience Sinclair, sister of Charity from the book Midnight Sun. Patience Sinclair is leaving a stressful situation in her hometown of Boston to travel to Texas to work on her dissertation about women of the west. She is traveling with the rodeo for the summer. Patience wasn¿t thinking that the man of her dreams would be a champion rider. Dallas Kingman was a cowboy down to his bones. He didn¿t know how to handle this classy woman from back east. The rodeo helped to make Dallas the man he is today. Patience and Dallas give in to their attraction for the summer. But both want more. As they begin to fall in love, strange accidents start to happen at the rodeo, leading fear to creep into their lives. Kat Martin writes a sensual tale of love and convictions. Looking forward to Hope¿s story.

    Fine romantic suspense

Patience Sinclair looks forward to her time away from the Boston area partly due to the stalking of her by Tyler Stanfield, but mostly because of the opportunity to complete her thesis research on Women in Western History by being part of a rodeo. In Texas, Patience gets off on the wrong foot with rodeo superstar Dallas Kingman who writes her off as a pretty ¿buckle bunny¿..................................... However, as Patience and Dallas become better acquainted an attraction blossoms, but both know that nothing can come of it because he is western cowboy and she is sophisticated Bostonian. Still with Tyler closing in on her, Dallas needs to keep the woman he loves safe though the eastern tenderfoot keeps surprising him with her courage, her knowledge of the west and even her riding skills, but most of all how she makes him feel. Now to persuade the wannabe professor they can make a life together even if she is New England and he is southwest................................... Though the Tyler subplot is a nuisance to a wonderful contemporary romance with a pinch of late suspense, fans will enjoy this gender battle between Massachusetts and Texas (sounds like the presidential race) because the lead pair is a delightful charming duo whether they love or squabble. The story line is at its top when the rodeo setting is in the forefront, which is much of the tale. Kat Martin furbishes a wonderful tale that adds luster to her career as did the previous Sinclair sister¿s story in MIDNIGHT SUN........................... Harriet Klausner

    Very good read...

Attempting to escape a rejected love turned stalker, Patience Sinclair heads south, to the rodeo. Originally, the trip was planned just to work on her disertation, but escape becomes the focus. ...................... The rodeo is a whole new world. Cowboys, barrel racers, and courageous clowns have their own civilization in which Patience becomes enthralled. It has its own inherent romance, and Patience soon has to face her fears when she gets entangled with an overly amorous cowboy. Before trouble can get out of hand, she is rescued by the someone who won't be turned aside. Dallas embodies everything a man ought to be, and is willing to be there for Patience. ..................... When the city girl learns that danger lurks even there, a serial killer is on the loose, she will need all her own skills and all of Dallas' courage to handle the situation. If she lives through it, it will be time to go home, and leave behind her heart. Can she do it, or is there another way? ................... **** Some writers pen such wonderful books that reviewers almost hate them; it's hard to write about the story without letting out too much, and then reading lesser books is painful. However, although Kat Martin fits this category, I don't want her to ever stop. She makes the settings and people seem real, yet still has the slight larger than life quality that makes reading her books an escape from reality. ****
