The Desert Is Theirs is about the animals and people of the desert. If you want to read wonderful descriptions about the desert, and those who live there, this book is for you! It talks about 'hard skinny plants' and how the Indians 'know desert secrets that no one else knows.' The illustrations in this book are very interesting with mixes of black, white, and bold colors. Byrd Baylor is the author of this book, and the subject of desert life, as well as the lives of Native Americans was one of his greatest passions. I would recommend this book for children grades 4 and up. Baylor, Byrd. The Desert Is Theirs. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1975.
