Overview

Nalini has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. As a child, when she wasn't daydreaming, she was scribbling her ideas down in her notebook. Somewhere along the way, she figured out that a writer was as close to a professional daydreamer as it was possible to get. Writing then became her main career choice. However, a somewhat unexpected practical streak had her attending university and graduating with degrees in English literature and law (as spots for professional dreamers are scarce).

Nalini worked in a law firm for almost two years before she sold her first book. She took it as a sign that "The Call" came the day before her 25th birthday--it was the universe's way of telling her that the time was right for her to change careers from law to writing (though some of her friends suggested that she might be indulging in a quarter-life crisis). However, she is deliriously happy with her decision to follow her lifelong dream. Despite the fact that the 21st century is supposed to be hip and sophisticated and way too cool for love, Nalini believes in love and hope and forever, because without those things, this world would be a cold place. She's delighted to be writing books that celebrate romance.

In the next few years, she intends to shamelessly indulge her desire to write and to travel the world, including possibly taking up residence in another country for a short time. According to her, it's all grist for the writer's mill.

I read the combo - Lord of the Abyss and then Desert Warrior. It was as if two different authors wrote them. Desert Warrior was almost silly it was so juvenile. The characters were completely unbelievable and the male protagonist, while having good possibilities, became as silly as his female counterpart. There is innocence and there is lacking in depth. You can imagine which one I choose. Lord of the Abyss is, excuse the faint pun, night and day to my previous words. The protagonists were also innocent of carnal experience, but that is where similarities end. Remarkably good reading, and left the door open for it to continue, with minor characters to step forward in their own story. I see the many years span in between Singhs writing these books, and her growth as a storyteller is in huge leaps and bounds. Kudos to you, Nalini Singh, for your remarkable and now much more mature and incredibly interesting novels.

Just read this as the second book of the more expensive Lord of the Abyss ebook and loved it. A great loved, parted, and loved again story, especially since the hero stayed faithful to his beloved...quite unusual in series romances. Though early in her career, Nalini already shows her great hand at characterization and sensually beautiful love stories.
