Children's Literature - Triss RobinsonChildren of all ages enjoy reading about anything that has to do with nature; whether it is read to them, or they read it on their own. The series "Biomes" introduces the reader to a specific ecological community:? the desert. The book offers information on climate, location, careers, technological developments, and plants and animals found in this harsh and often barren landscape. Each page has bright colorful pictures to introduce the reader to the reality of the desert. The captions by each picture explain further what is being discussed in the text on each page. The author has wisely used text features throughout the book, making it easier for the reader to grasp the topic and concepts on each page. For the young, inexperienced nonfiction reader this makes each page manageable to understand. The information is presented in such a way that it is easy to read, and it moves along quickly, keeping it a page-turner. After a topic is covered there is a section called "Fascinating Facts." These are unusual facts the reader will find fun and amazing. From young readers to experienced readers, there is something in this book for anyone wanting to find out more about the desert. At the back of the book, for those who still want more information, there are books and web sites listed.
