    Comfort in a Chaotic World

I first came across the 'Desiderata' when I purchased a journal in Maine, my home state. The poem is printed along the inside cover, and, I found it to be profoundly reassuring. In January of 2001, I moved from Maine to New York City. On January 16, 2001, I started working on Hudson St., approximately 3/4 of a mile from the World Trade Center. On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, I stood at the corner of my building and looked up at a gaping hole in one of the World Trade Center towers, smoke poured out dark against the blue sky. Before we had really come to absorbed what a horrible accident had just occurred, we watched in stunned disbelief as the second plane crashed into the second tower. I am overwhelmed by shock and sadness. This morning while on my way back to work for only the second time since that fateful Tuesday, I thought of the 'Desiderata.' Pulling out my journal, I read it silently, again and again, finding myself feeling some mental and emotional comfort at last. I encourage anyone who is struggling to find inner peace and comfort in our chaotic world to purchase this book. I am incredibly thankful that the 'Desiderata' exists. Share it with those you love.

    Simple Truth and Beauty

My Father gave me this writing twenty plus years ago. I read it often and it always helps me find a new way to look at life. It always brings me to a better place. My favorite quote from Desideratan; 'In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul.' ~Peace~

    Life Saving

In times of sorrow and of happiness, I turn to Desiderata for help in finding a sensible perspective. It has helped me through college, and I suspect will continue to help me for many years.
