Meet the Author

After 20 years in the corporate world, Rose Hughes jumped into her quilt art life in 2003 and has never looked back.

Rose loves to share her quilting passions and travels the world providing entertaining and educational lectures. Her teaching topics include Fast-Piece Appliqué (of course), but her lineup of workshops also covers design, fabric painting, color, and all forms of embellishment.

As Rose continues to pursue her art, you may find her quilts in juried exhibitions throughout the world, and you might also see her sharing her work and methods on television and online. She enjoys membership in numerous quilt- and art-related organizations and finds joy in sharing her love of quilting through her blog, ravenspeakquilts, and her Facebook page.

If I was to recommend a book for a beginning quilter, it would definitely not be this one. I would recommend it to someone who wants to become a fabric artist.

There are seven chapters. Each provides a technique and then a project or two. None of them are quilts like most people think of quilts – one made from blocks, strips, triangles or squares. These projects are wild and more of a picture than a quilt.

If you are looking for a how-to for an art quilt or just a wall hanging that is more of a picture, this book will get you moving in that direction. Templates have to be enlarged before use. All types of thread, buttons and beads are included in the making of these items. Don’t forget, all types of materials, cotton, silk, velveteen and woven, are also used.

Don’t be deceived by the title of this book; it is not a learn to quilt book. It is a learn to be a fabric artist book.
