    title misleading

A beautifully illustrated book, but does not deal with technical aspects of design, such as proper fit-- armhole length, necklines, sleeves-raglan, kimono etc. How does one insure that the finished sweater fits well based on body measurements? This is not addressed. Not enough guidance for me. Suggestions given are to use a pattern the reader likes and modify it. Discussion about color and texture presented. I thought it would describe and guide the knitter through a design project. There are instructions for knitting projects--sweaters, jackets, but difficult for an intermediate knitter. Not very happy about this book.

    Awesome!

I love this book becuase of the way she ananlyzes the structure of knitting. The book has wonderful patterns in it, and she tells why she designs the way she does; comfort, color, fit. The book is simple to understand, and is very clear to the reader. I finally feel comfortable enough to try my own hand at "design" and change some schematics around to suit my own personal taste. It is as if Debbie Bliss is sitting on my shoulder guiding me. Bunnydiet.

    I Also Recommend:

Design It, Knit It is a fantastic resource!

I've been knitting on and off for a very, very long time. Only last year I started messing around with existing patterns and wondering exactly how does one go about designing their own knitwear? Debbie Bliss came to my aid with this guide that I found quite informative and timely. I've seen other knitting design guides, tucked into the back of things like the Vogue Knitting Book that were technical to the point of confusing me. In this particular book, Ms. Bliss not only tells you how to achieve a desired result, but why these particular options work. Which in turn launches your creativity. She has some wonderful sweaters here - the robin's egg blue cable and bobble cardi alone is worth the price of the book but advice, such as forgoing pullover shapes for babies, and other specifics really is helpful to someone who doesn't necessarily think three dimensionally. She's included templates of different sweater shapes that the buyer can draw on, as well as graph paper templates, for those who are really feeling original. There's so much good info in this book, that I think that this will be one of the last knitting books I need to buy!
