They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release . . .

Kara MacAllister's quiet small-town life is transformed forever the night a powerful stranger rips her from her home, claiming she is the chosen one—the key to his survival.

Spiriting her away into the rain-soaked night, Lyon reveals a truth Kara can barely credit. She's immortal, and the only one who can save his race. And deep within her, he arouses a fierce, primal hunger beyond anything she's ever imagined.

But only when their lives are threatened by an ancient evil will Kara and Lyon realize they have found a love they would risk their immortal souls to claim . . . and a powerful desire that could never, ever be tamed.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Magic and passion run wild in this steamy paranormal series debut. Kara MacAllister has a normal life as a preschool teacher until Lyon, leader of a group of near-immortal shape-shifting Therian warriors, attempts to kidnap her. Like Lyon, Kara is a Therian, and the only one who can give the warriors the magical power they need to fight the energy-stealing draden. Though drawn to Lyon's sensuous body, Kara is horrified when he insists she undergo a ritual to choose a lifelong mate. Palmer (The Dark Gate) piles on the searing kisses and passionate interludes as she sets up an intriguing world, but the characters never develop and the violence verges on excessive. The fast-paced action keeps readers guessing about the villains behind the scenes-but not about whether true love will win out in the end. (July)

Library Journal

Shaken to learn that she is not human but a member of the immortal Therian race of shape-shifters, Kara MacAllister is jerked from her quiet Missouri small-town existence when Lyon invades her home to claim her as their chosen Radiant, a woman necessary for survival in their battle against ancient evil to keep the world safe. Surrounded by a cadre of nine fierce and sometimes unpredictable shape-shifters, Kara struggles to "ascend" to her full powers, but darker forces have other plans. VERDICT First in Palmer's "Feral Warriors" series, this is violent, sexy, dark paranormal fantasy of the first order and creates a compelling world that fans will find hard to resist. Palmer (Dark Deceiver) lives in the Washington, DC, area.

Desire Untamed
A Feral Warriors Novel

Chapter One

One woman, in all the world, held the key to the survival of life on Earth. And they'd lost her.

The Therian race called her the Radiant, for it was through her that nature channeled the energy to their guardians, the Feral Warriors, enabling them to track and destroy the Daemon remnants, the draden, before they snuffed the life from Therians and humans alike. In return, the Feral Warriors protected the Radiant with their lives.

Which was damn hard to do when they didn't know where... or who... she was.

Lyon grimaced as he led his eight warriors along the dark, rocky trail high above the falls of the rugged and deadly Potomac River. Hell, they'd lost two Radiants. The old one to death. The new one, the one marked by the goddess to take her place, had never come forward. And the situation was growing dire.

The rocks felt cold beneath Lyon's bare feet as he left the trail and climbed down toward the goddess stone wearing nothing but a silk shirt and a pair of jeans. In his hands he carried two deadly switchblades in case of a draden attack. Below, the glow from the full moon tripped over the bounding water, shooting brilliant shards of light into the night air.

"What in the hell are we doing out here at 3:00 a.m.?" Jag's tone, as always, challenged.

Anger rumbled deep in Lyon's throat, the sound of an irritated lion. Which he was, down deep.

Jag had no use for any of them, and the feeling was more than mutual. Lyon cut his gaze toward the warrior, taking in the oh-so-familiar belligerence in Jag's eyes and the sneer forming on hiscynical mouth. In his camouflage pants and army green tee, Jag took his role of warrior a bit too literally. None of the Ferals had ever served a day in the United States military. As a rule, they stayed out of all things human.

"Cat got your tongue?" Jag prodded.

"What do you think we're doing out here at this hour? We're raising the power of the beasts." He leaped down to the path he sought, Jag close behind him.

"So you haul us out here in the middle of the night because you, mighty chief, couldn't do your job?"

Raw violence clawed at Lyon's self-control, his beast's instincts begging to rip the asshole's throat out. His control, battered by their increasingly critical situation, snapped. The tip of his fingers burned a moment before his claws sprang out. With a growl, he shifted both his blades to one hand while he whirled and sank the claws of his other in the man's neck as he slammed him against the rock.

Blood trickled down Jag's throat, but no fear flickered in his eyes, only a spark of malicious amusement that he'd pushed Lyon too far. Even if Lyon completely lost it, he'd be hard-pressed to do Jag any real damage. Physically, they were a match. Shape-shifters simply didn't break that easily.

What he longed for was a comeback to Jag's snide remarks, something to put the surly warrior in his place. The bitch of it was, he didn't have one. Jag was right. Lyon had failed to find their new Radiant. With a jerk and a snarl, he released the man and shoved himself away, sheathing his claws. Every muscle in his body vibrated with frustration as he climbed down to the goddess stone.

Within a couple of months of their old Radiant's death a Therian woman should have woken to find a mark upon her breast like a long-healed scar. Four-inch-long claw marks.

The mark of the chosen one.

It was Lyon's job to find her and get her ascended to her power, renewing and empowering all the Feral Warriors. As the finder, Lyon was the only one who possessed the ability—the senses—to seek her out. He'd waited, knowing the marking wouldn't happen immediately. But now too much time had passed. The only thing he could figure was that she was out of range of his human senses. Worse, his Feral strength had drained to the point he could no longer access his deeper, more primal power—the power of the beast that lived inside him.

Without an ascended Radiant to renew them, the Feral Warriors—the guardians of the Therian race and last of the true shape-shifters—grew weaker by the day. Except for the occasional show of claws, fangs, and animal eyes, they'd all lost the ability to shift. With each passing sunrise, Lyon's ability to find the woman diminished.

He had one chance left. Tonight.

graphically violent action-packed urban romantic fantasy

Preschool teacher Kara MacAllister lives a sedate life until Lyon, leader of the shapeshifting Therian Feral Warriors, tries to abduct her He and his band of eight guardian warriors need Kara, who as the Radiant has the power to channel energy to them so that these feral Warriors can find, fight, and kill the dreaded draden energy suckers.

Kara is attracted to her kidnapper, but still wants to go home and forget about Feral Warriors even after he tells her she is almost immortal like all Therians and is the chosen one who can save the world from the energy eaters. He further insists she must perform the ritual of mate choosing to accomplish her save the world mission; she wants to say no, but realizes she has no choice.

DESIRES UNTAMED is a fast-paced, graphically violent action-packed urban romantic fantasy. In some ways the exciting thriller feels like a mystery as the Feral Warriors, their Radiant and readers struggle to uncover the identity of their clever enemy. Ironically, the "Untamed" Palmer world is developed as is the passionate relationship between Kara and Lyon; yet none of the key characters including the lead couple, come across as more than two dimensional. Still sub-genre fans who relish a hot romance inside a vivid escapade filled thriller will enjoy reading the opening of Pamela Palmer's "Untamed" world.

    great book! must read!

I love this book! Actually I love the entire Shape Shifter series. Once you pick up one book you won't be able to put it down until you've completely read the 3 books that is out. This series is more for adults. It will have you on the edge of your seat, just flipping through page after page, wanting to know what will happen next. This book is funny, witty, and sexy! I would completely recommend reading this book. And the great thing about this series is you can pick up any book and start reading without getting lost. You can read them in no particular order and still know what is going on. I can't wait for the next book to come out this year!

Outstanding 1st book in Feral Warriors Series

DESIRE UNTAMED by Pamela Palmer, first in the Feral Warriors series is out June 30th, 2009! I discovered Pamela Palmer's books with her Nocturne series (I recommend these too!). So when I saw this series coming too along with her time travels as Pamela Montgomerie I've been elated since!

The Feral Warriors are a race of 9 surviving Therians. Therians are an immortal shape shifters that are out there to protect their race as well as humans from Daemons. Daemons are evil! They try to take the power from the Feral Warriors and use the power wrong (bad ways). So these 9 Feral Warriors try to keep the Daemons at a minimum. The Feral Warriors need energy from the earth to shape shift. They get this energy from a Therian called A Radiant who is female. A Radiant gives the 9 Feral Warriors strength through energy that she radiant to them so they can shape shift and fight. The Feral Warriors use their strength to take out the Daemons. There are also Mages that use magic but they are rivals of the Feral Warriors.

Once I got into this series, it was so smooth sailing on this 'world this author created. I was understanding from the first page on. Author Pamela Palmer so gives this series a visual picture of everything! Too her site has an area devoted to this series that explains this all along with the characters. The 9 Feral Warriors are 9 different shape shifters. The first book is starts where their past Radiant has died and they need a Radiant. The longer they don't shape shift, the worse each of these Feral Warriors get (they go 'into their skin', in other words, their animal comes out in their fighting mode and they fight among their Feral Warriors friends. Lyon, is the leader among the Feral Warriors. You will love the names this author created for each of the 9 Feral Warriors! I love Lyon but too I'm in love with many of them, especially Tighe and Paenther. And yes, the names are similar, sometimes, to what they shape shift to. Since these Feral Warriors need a Radiant to get stronger, As a leader of the Feral Warriors, Lyon leads the Feral Warriors to a ritual that binds one of them as a mate to the Radiant Kara. Kara, their Radiant, is living among humans and she has no ideas she's of the Therian's race. When she's taken to learn her skills as a Radiant, she is resistant to this whole cause being so new and so much change for her.Too she has falling in love with Lyon but he's appears through the ritual, not designated to be her mate. This author will take you through this whole process that will lead to a beautiful HEA and too set you up to anticipate every one of the Feral Warriors HEA. The romance and passion between Lyon and Kara is intense, romantic and sizzling! I for one so can't wait for their books! Great thing is that book two, OBSESSION UNTAMED is out the end of July and the 3rd book, PASSION UNTAMED is out at the end of August. So we'll have the treat of 3 books in a row (plus her Time Travel as Pamela Montgomerie SAPPHIRE DREAMS on July 7th!! I so hope to be able to get this and bring you a review. I too plan to read each of these books and review.

Here's the blurb for DESIRE UNTAMED from Pamela Palmer's site as well as links for her site:

Kara MacAllister's quiet small-town life is transformed forever the night a powerful stranger rips her from her home, claiming she is the chosen one - the key to his survival. Spiriting her away into the rain-soaked night, Lyon reveals a truth Kara can barely credit. She's

    Redundant

The shape shifter battling demons while the rest of the human populations are oblivious is nothing new. The character development could use some work.
The way the hero and heroine feel for each other becomes redundant.

    Correction of reading order

I haven't actually read this yet. I was going to start the series on a friend's reccomendation, and I still will do so. I just wanted to save other potential readers my confusion.

Another reviewer said that this is actually the 3rd book in the series. I've had experiences before where B&N accidentally lists reading order wrong, so I wasn't sure if the site was correct or the reviewer. I went to the author's website.

B&N has the order CORRECT. This IS the 1st book in the series. I don't know why that other reviewer said this was not the first book in the series.

Now I'm off to enjoy what my friend tells me is a fantastic book!

    New for me..

I love PNR... and I love vampire warrior types.. so this was a new one for me... Shapeshifters.

I think now I have something to else to love, and I'm very happy about it! A whole series of sexy man animals!

There were parts of this were I rolled my eyes, laughed, felt sad, and had to turn up the a/c.

I look forward to reading about the other Feral Warriors in this series.

    Pretty Interesting

I got the book since I like to read Laura Adrians books and it come up as a suggestion. I got the book and started reading it. It was a bit hard to get into at first, but after a few chapters I was hooked. I liked the story (even though some parts where predictable for me). But I still enjoyed it. Waiting to see when I will order the next book to read it. Dont know how it will work going off this book. But it was good.
