As an avid reader of such writers as Anne Rice, Anne Bishop, and Laurell Hamilton, I recently decided to broaden my horizons by acquiring novels by other authors of similar genre. I am horrified that I actually paid money for this book. I am truly baffled by the high star rating. This book would best be utilized by a Freshman English class to teach a lesson on 'How Not to Write a Novel.' It showcases everything from grammatical errors to spelling errors, issues of tense, thesaurus abuse and basic punctuation problems. The plot is marginal and the characters are one dimensional as well as painfully shallow. For the love of all that you hold dear, spend your hard earned money elsewhere. I wish that I had.

Police detectives Warren Davis and Matthew Eric have worked several ghastly cases in their respective twelve and ten years on the Chicago force and partners for the last five years on the Supernatural Unit Investigation Team, but this may be the worst. The body contains no blood and is headless. Not needing profiling and putting aside their donuts, they seek a killer vampire.................. Meanwhile Natasha Hemingway and her best friend Annette were celebrating the former obtaining a new job when they were in a car accident. Natasha was hospitalized but as she recovers from her injuries she begins having dreams that seem very real involving the homicides. She also meets and is attracted to Xavier Richards, but is unaware that he is a vampire. Xavier introduces Natasha to his vampiric lover Darian Alexander. To her chagrin she is attracted to him too. The vampires like the human female as much and while they work out a potential ménage de trois, Natasha offers her assistance to Warren and Eric involving their case................ DESIRES UNLEASHED: KNIGHTS OF THE DARKNESS CHRONICLES employs two major subplots that ultimately tie together. The police procedural investigation into the supernatural seems gritty, genuine and makes readers believe while the erotica theme adds depth to the belief that vampires live though the audience will wonder if Natasha will go for a threesome or not. This is not a Bueller Chicago joy ride as the novel contains graphic violence and sex scenes including an opening with an erotic death scene that is not for everyone. However fans of well written erotic supernatural investigative tale will enjoy D.N. Simmons dark, gory chronicle.................. Harriet Klausner

I understand that the author is new, or atleast I think so... the story line is okay but I found myself skimming through parts I didn't care about and waiting for the book to be over( I can't start a book without finishing it.) This book has potential with the proper editors to polish it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

For those that are looking for vampires, shifters, a little male/male and a little male/female, mixed with a whole lot of mystery, this book is certainly for you!
This book had a really interesting take on how our world could potentially change if it was one day revealed that vampires and shifters DO live among us. Of course, it becomes just like anything else that we find different in our world...some embrace it, some fear it, and some hate it without even trying to understand it. Once the hysteria dies down, and laws begin to be created for the "supernaturals", a new police force is created, called S.U.I.T. to enforce these laws -- whether everyone agrees these laws are fair or not. This is how we meet Warren and Matthew, the best detectives of this unit, but detectives who also have secrets of their own. Especially Warren.
When the rules were established, it was not without allowing segregation to be created as well. There were clubs that became "human only", which took special precautions to ensure vampires and shifters couldn't get in. These were the clubs Natasha preferred to be in. Although she knew supernaturals existed, she preferred to know nothing about them and stay as far away from them as possible. Her best friend and roommate, on the other hand, had no problem with them. In fact, she had so little problem that she worked at a strip club (named Desires Unleashed) owned by an exceptionally powerful vampire named Darian, who didn't feel the human laws completely applied to him -- and no one looked too deeply into what he did.
Of course, there came that one fateful night that would eventually lead all paths to cross, and everyone questioning if they really knew as much as they thought about each other's "kinds". A night that leads to more questions and a crazy amount of attraction between some unlikely pairs.
I admit in the beginning I had a hard time with this book, with several different storylines being set up, and therefore lost some momentum and sometimes lost my attention. However, the last part of the book did end up making it a little more worth it. A few of the side-stories did get dropped and not even mentioned in the end of the book, but I assume these will be brought up in future books in the series. Simply because I'm intrigued enough to continue to read this series to find out what happens with all of these characters, I certainly think this story deserves 4 stars. ~ Erin

Desires Unleashed takes us into a world where the supernatural have just been outed and people and supernaturals alike are still trying to come to terms with what that means and how it will all shape up. Prejudice and distrust on both sides makes for an uneasy truce as the government tries to write new laws to govern groups completely different from you average human a special police force is created, S.U.I.T, two of our heros are members of this group, we also have shifters of the wolf and leopard variety as heros and heroines of the story and a couple of vampires to boot. Throw in a human who is terrified of the supernaturals and tries to avoid them and you have a complex and sets up the series however if flows and you never feel information overload you are just sucked into a compelling, sexy, griping and gritty story.
Ms. Simmons provides a book filled with adventure, suspense, mystery, hot sex and oh yeah more hot sex ;O)
it doesn't matter if you are a vampire lover or have a shifter obsession your paranormal/supernatural hunger will be fed and fed well with this book. We have m/m and m/f couplings as well as human/supernatural relations.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

D.N. Simmons pens "Desires Unleashed" a paranormal urban fantasy where shapeshifters, vampires, and humans co-exist. You really need to pay attention in the beginning to understand what is happening because of all the character introductions, but once you get through that part it gets much easier. Once I got into the book, I totally loved it! Her characters are strong and sexy and each with their own unique and original story line. "Desires Unleashed" is the first book of the ' Knights of the Darkness Chronicles' series and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Set in Chicago is a world of supernaturals, vampires, werewolves, panthers. Warren the Cop, Darian the club owner, Elise: Darian's lover, Xavier: Darian's second in command and lover, Sergio: who loves Elise, Natasha and Annette. How refreshing to read a book where humans are aware that they aren't the top of the food chain and mingle, live and love those who could do them harm. How refreshing to meet a heroine, with not only brains but a heart and a bit of decorum, who actually falls in love with a vampire based on her own emotions, not some metaphysical scapegoat and who is free of the requisite nerosis, baggage and lack of emotional growth. Who happens to only get catty when it's given to and hasn't superceded Atlas with the chip on her shoulder. Even more refreshing are vampires and weres who actually behave like the predators that they are and aren't Bishouen styled girly men, who've either been tortured or raped and need the heroine to save them. Thank GOD for an author who can write m/m sex that makes me go 'Yummy.' and not feel all squishy because it's over written. Thank God for an author who despite the errors, for those who don't know, she's self published, the story was good enough that I spent time picking at errors instead of enjoying the story. Was this review helpful? This is by far one of the best series this genre has to offer. I'd say, please overlook the simple typos, because the story is just plain excellent. Also, the second book is even better edited, so no worries. Both Desires Unleashed and The Guilty Innocent were loaded with suspence, action, great sex scenes and plenty more. I love the dialogue and the characters are addictive, I swear! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

This book was pretty good taking the vampire homosexuality to another level. I'm a big fan of anne rice and this book took it one step further. The characters were interesting and I cant wait to read the next book to find out exactly everything thats going on. I love the writing in the scenes with the two main cops, they were written with love and help give you a feel for their real character. Hurry up and put the next book out, I wanna read, now!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

They should make a movie out of this book! Loads of hot well written sex scenes that blew my mind! Great vampires and what I like best of all at the shape-shifters. These are your brooding, ill-adjusted freaked out shape-shifters. These creaters have personality with bite! I loved this book, would highly recommend it to any vampire or shape-shifter lover. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I can't believe I wasted money on this trash. The writing is deplorable, grammatical errors abound! The dialogue is stilted and unrealistic. Written in a narrative style, this story packs zero punch and it often seems the author inserts some dialogue because he knows he 'should' but really doesn't want to. He'd much rather ramble on and on in an awkward manner. Frankly, I hope this author hasn't quit his day job because I don't see a future in writing. This is the most pitiful attempt I've ever read. This book is simply awful.

This book makes you feel like you're actually there, like you've been transported into the world of the supernatural. It was such a thrill to read a book of this sort. The characters were so life-like and vibrant with personalities that you could really relate to. The dialogue was not at all boring or repetitive. I am highly recommending this novel to anyone who likes to read a great book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

This is the sloppiest writing I've ever encountered. Within the first few pages, I've encountered dozens of errors in spelling, grammer and punctuation that are so glaring it's hard to concentrate on the story. The characters are flat and the dialogue is stilted. An altogether poor effort. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I brought this book based on a recommendation from a friend. I fell in love with the imaginative world, and realistic (and original) chracters from the moment I started reading. This book is fast paced, exciting, humorous, thrilling, sexy and highly romantic and leaves you thirsting for more! It is my understanding that this is the first novel by D.N. Simmons, and what a WONDERFUL start. I am anixously awaiting the next novel. I recommend this book to Laurell K. Hamiliton, Charlaine Harris and Anne Rice fans. If you're looking for a great new series to start, then look no further! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I loved this novel! Every inch of it. I found the dynamic characters and dialogue to be witty and realistic, a truly unique experience. The story itself is bold and provocative in which the characters expressed opinions that some might consider to be controversial, it is a very intelligent novel. My only problem with this book was the editing. There were a lot of errors, but the story was so compelling and entertaining that I found myself easily able to ignore them. If you're going to read this novel, have your mind open, and please forgive the errors, it's well worth it!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This book was great, I thoroughly enjoyed it! But be forewarned, there are some grammatical and spelling errors in the novel, but the story makes the errors completely forgivable. So if you're not the type to let that bother you, you're in for a treat. I would highly recommend this book to LKH fans and Kim Harrison fans. Was this review helpful? I purchased this book, based only on an excerpt, and it was the best money I've spent in a long time! DU is fun, fast paced, and slightly naughty! The storyline is entertaining and reads smoothly. The characters appear real and intermingle with one another throughout the story with ease. Because of this, I found the book hard to put down. I normally do not finish books, however this one I did. It was easy to read, it's fun, and it's a tasty break from our own lives! I liked Desires Unleashed and hope to see more from this author in the future. Was this review helpful? As soon as I started reading this book, I was enthralled with the plot and enamored with each character. The amazing seprate plots pull together wonderfully and entice the reader to keep going. It is impossible to put down and leaves you turning pages well into the early hours. I would suggest this book to anyone who is even slightly into vampires, shape-shifters, or just a great book! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This was actually a very good book, I was definitely surprized! I thought the plot was original and exciting. The characters were extremely realistic, which was very interesting. There were a lot of things that kept me interested while reading this book. I enjoyed the sex scenes, it was new and fun to read about gay sex scenes in a vampire/shape-shifter novel. If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
