Overview

Hundreds of full-color photographs and Greenawalt's narrative present a fascinating look at a vibrant American city. Business places, neighborhoods, churches, cultural festivals, sports, the arts—it's all here, along with interviews and facts that put you right in the heart of a diverse, progressive city that still retains its Southern charm. "Charlotte's beauty, attractions and charm lure visitors from around the world," says Chamber of Commerce President Bob Morgan, "but the spirit of our people brings them back and them here." Former Mayor Harvey Gantt says, "Charlotte is a small town grown big, still a close knit community surrounded by the advantages of a big city."

I've been traveling to Charlotte more on both business and pleasure and have found this book to be a tremendous resource. Live, work and play (Chapter Titles) says it all. There's so much going on in the City and "Destination Charlotte" provides a consolidated guidebook. The photography is great and conveys the energy this city exudes. I recommend it for anyone planning to visit the city.

Destination Charlotte is by far the best (and most current) photographic tour of the Quuen City of Charlotte, NC and it's surrounding communities that I have seen. With its rapid growth and development over the past ten years Charlotte has evolved into a modern metropolis which, until the publishing of this book, had not been compressed into a single platform. Greg Greenawalt provides a marvelous, factual commentary on the city, its sights and activities. He touches the ecletic neighborhoods and the grandious architecture of the city. He shows us the sports side of Charlotte and the fun, festival side. He takes us on an amazing, wonderful journey through the city via some of the most spectacular photography from talented Paul Purser. This book is gift quality and would make a memorable gift for anyone moving into Charlotte or who has had to leave and continues to miss everything about it. It is a wonderful book for any person who is curious about Charlotte and wonders what type of city it is. And it is a game changer for persons who are thinking of moving to the area but just haven't made up their mind yet. I live in Charlotte. This book was gifted to my brother and sister in other states who now know the source of my passion for this city. I highly recommend it.
