About the Authors:
Ray E. Boomhower has been with the Indiana Historical Society since 1987 and is currently managing editor of its popular history magazine, Traces of Indiana and Midwestern History. He is author of the biographies Jacob Piatt Dunn, Jr.: A Life in History and Politics, 1855-1924 and of The Country Contributor: The Life and Times of Juliet V. Strauss.

Darryl Jones, an Indianapolis native and photographer, is perhaps best known for his photography for the books Indiana and Indianapolis and for his postcards picturing Indiana. Jones also provided the photographs for the IHS publication A Simple and Vital Design: The Story of the Indiana Post Office Murals.
