While Destined for Love can be read as a stand-alone novel, for even more reading enjoyment you may want to read the LOVE IN BLOOM series in series order.

Love hot cowboys?

Rex Braden is wealthy, hard working, and fiercely loyal. Sweat at his brow, he works the family ranch by day, then kicks back at night with part time lovers who require nothing more than his physical presence a few times each week. But that was before. Before Jade Johnson, the daughter of the man his father has been feuding with for over forty years, moves back into town.

After ditching a horrific relationship—and her veterinary practice in the process—Jade Johnson returns to the safety of her small hometown and finally finds her footing. That is...until her horse is injured and Rex Braden comes to her rescue. The last thing she needs is a bull-headed, too-handsome-for-his-own-good Braden complicating her life.

Despite the angry family history, sparks fly between Rex and Jade, and attitudes follow. Fifteen years of stifled, forbidden love stirs a surge of passion too strong for either to deny—and the rebel in each of them rears its powerful head. Loyalties are tested, and relationships are strained. Rex and Jade are about to find out if true love really can conquer all.

REX BRADEN AWOKE before dawn, just as he had every Sunday morning for the past twenty-six years—since the Sunday after his mother died, when he was eight years old. He didn’t know what had startled him awake on that very first Sunday after she’d passed, but he swore it was her whispering voice that led him down to the barn and had him mounting Hope, the horse his father had bought for his mother when she first became ill. In the years since, Hope had remained strong and healthy; his mother, however, had not been as lucky.

In the gray, predawn hours, the air was still downright cold, which wasn’t unusual for May in Colorado. By afternoon they’d see temps in the low seventies. Rex pulled his Stetson down low on his head and rounded his shoulders forward as he headed into the barn.

The other horses itched to be set free the moment he walked by their stalls, but Rex’s focus on Sunday mornings was solely on Hope.

“How are you, girl?” he asked in a deep, soft voice. He saddled Hope with care, running his hand over her thick coat. Her red coat had faded, now boasting white patches along her jaw and shoulders.

Hope nuzzled her nose into his massive chest with a gentle neigh. Most of his T-shirts had worn spots at his solar plexus from that familiar nudge. Rex had helped his father on the ranch ever since he was a boy, and after graduating from college, he’d returned to the ranch full-time. Now he ran the show—well, as much as anyone could run anything under Hal Braden’s strong will.

“Taking our normal ride, okay, Hope?” He looked into her enormous brown eyes, and not for the first time, he swore he saw his mother’s beautiful face smiling back at him, the face he remembered from before her illness had stolen the color from her skin and the sparkle from her eyes. Rex put his hands on Hope’s strong jaw and kissed her on the soft pad of skin between her nostrils. Then he removed his hat and rested his forehead against the same tender spot, closing his eyes just long enough to sear that image into his mind.

They trotted down the well-worn trail in the dense woods that bordered his family’s five-hundred-acre ranch. Rex had grown up playing in those woods with his five siblings. He knew every dip in the landscape and could ride every trail blindfolded. They rode out to the point where the trail abruptly came to an end at the adjacent property. The line between the Braden ranch and the unoccupied property might be invisible to some. The grass melded together, and the trees looked identical on either side. To Rex, the division was clear. On the Braden side, the land had life and breath, while on the unoccupied side, the land seemed to exude a longing for more.

Hope instinctively knew to turn around at that point, as they’d done so many times before. Today Rex pulled her reins gently, bringing her to a halt. He took a deep breath as the sun began to rise, his chest tightening at the silent three hundred acres of prime ranch land that would remain empty forever. Forty-five years earlier, his father and Earl Johnson, their neighbor and his father’s childhood friend, had jointly purchased that acreage between the two properties with the hopes of one day turning it over for a profit. After five years of arguing over everything from who would pay to subdivide the property to who they’d sell it to, both Hal and Earl took the hardest stand they could, each refusing to ever sell. The feud still had not resolved. The Hatfields’ and McCoys’ harsh and loyal stance to protect their family honor was mild compared to the loyalty that ran within the Braden veins. The Bradens had been raised to be loyal to their family above all else. Rex felt a pang of guilt as he looked over the property, and not for the first time, he wished he could make it his own.

Destined for Love (Love in Bloom: The Bradens, Book 2): Rex Braden 4.6 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 45 reviews.

I thought the story was very pleasant and enjoyable. It was my first novel by Melissa Foster, so I have not read any of the other books about The Bradens or in the Love in Bloom series. I was able to follow along with the characters and story line just fine. I didn’t feel lost or like I was missing anything, so I feel like this novel could be a stand alone. I loved the main characters Rex and Jade. They were very likeable, and I felt I could connect to their characters from the beginning. There were a lot of secrets that were revealed throughout, and I loved seeing the bonding of the Braden’s siblings. I loved how they were so supportive and loving to one another. There was conflict and things that needed to be resolved in the story. I felt like the characters were stubborn and complex in a good way, and I liked that it was resolved in a manner that wasn’t annoying to the reader. I loved seeing the budding romance between two people that seemed to be attracted to one another their whole lives. The loyalty and fierceness of the characters passions and integrity made the story seem to real and honest to me. I really enjoyed the story from beginning to end.

There is no need for anyone to write a book report. Three to five lines should more than enough to express yourself. I don't bother read anything more. Why would I let you spoil the book for me?

Rex and Jade are star crossed lovers like Romeo and Juliet. Even their initials are the same. The family feud runs deep between Rex and Jade's fathers. Fifteen years ago, something happened, and from then on the Bradens and Johnsons hated each other even though they were neighbors and shared a piece of property. Meanwhile Rex and Jade had distant crushes on each other, but they didn't act on it until Rex's brother Treat became happily attached to Max. Seeing his brother have everything he wanted made Rex determined to find out if he and Jade could have a chance. Forbidden love is always the sweetest, and with some help from fate, kismet, and destiny, their romance turns into a family affair, with various members taking sides. Anyway, Rex is a real sweetie and one hot cowboy, and Jade is a compassionate caring woman who has an affinity to horses. What an enjoyable combination!

Reviewed by Natasha Jackson for Readers' Favorite Destined For Love tells us the story of Rex Braden and Jade Johnson who grew up practically next door to one another. Unfortunately, the elder Mr. Braden and Mr. Johnson have been feuding for decades, making Rex and Jade’s newly rediscovered attraction very inconvenient for all involved. Rex is the Braden who did the so-called right thing by staying at home to help his dad run the ranch. The ranch was his life, leaving little time for anything personal other than scratching the occasional itch. Jade has recently returned to town after an ex couldn’t take ‘break up’ for an answer. Melissa Foster has a knack for creating characters with depth. There are many layers to not just Rex and Jade, but Hal, Earl, Jane and even Adriana. The slightly supernatural element to this story was truly touching and kind of heartfelt. I will say that for most of the story I wanted to strangle Rex and Jade. I mean, really, a family feud keeping you apart! It just felt like both Jade and Rex were a little too willing to play the role of martyr over some silly decades-old fight between two ornery old men. I totally get why Hal was upset with his former friend, but there has to be a limit. Just as his mom and dad, Rex and Jade were Destined For Love despite what their parents think of it. Adriana would be so proud of Max and Hal for finally making things right. I have really come to love Melissa Foster as a writer. The family support, character development and the steamy but loving sex scenes all come together beautifully for truly engaging stories. I got to catch up with my favorite couple so far, Max and Treat, without taking the spotlight off the couple du jour.

Rex Braden doesn't know what started the feud between his family and the Johnsons, but he knows better than to pursue Earl Johnson's daughter Jade. Problem is that she's the only woman who's ever caught his eye and held it, and while she may be off limits, she's still everything he's ever wanted. It seems like chance keeps bringing them together, but when they both start falling, that chance begins to look a whole lot more like destiny. But with decades of bad blood, stubborn parents, and disputed land between them, making an honest go of it isn't going to be easy. The Verdict: Oh, sexy Rexy! In many ways, this might have been my perfect book. Melissa Foster took me home to a ranch, gave me back the Arabian my Daddy bought me when I was a kid, and threw in a sexy as sin but ultimately gentleman cowboy. I'm already sold on her writing, and about the only thing that would have ruined this book for me would have been something along the lines of an alien invasion or zombie outbreak. The whole star-crossed lovers thing in Destined for Love was different than I expected. With the feuding families, I thought Jade and Rex would be at each other's throats, but from the very beginning, they began to bring out the best in each other. Sure, they butted heads, and their futile attempts at hiding their attraction from each other led to some awesome misunderstandings, but Rex remained the gentleman, and Jade was as sweet as she was feisty. It really was the perfect country pairing. And at first, I thought the feud was crazy (I guess I was kind of in sync with the Jade and the Braden kids in this one), but the more I saw of the fathers, the more I believed it. It really is nuts what people will hold against each other for ages, and it seemed these guys were no different from the rest of us in that respect. Emotion almost always wins over logic when it comes to these things, and true to life, emotion started it, and emotion ended it. I guess it goes without saying that this is the perfect romance for anyone who can appreciate the everyday life on a ranch — from mending fences to mucking stalls to running to the feed store. But for those who don't know the difference between Rogues and Ropers, it's still a great escape into a modern cowboy romance.

I was introduced to Rex Braden in the previous book Lovers at Heart, Rex has helped his dad working on the family ranch since leaving school, he's loyal, honorable, strong, a family guy and obviously rather handsome. The problem is that the girl he is in love with, Jade, the very girl he has loved since school, is a 'Johnson' and is strictly off limits. The Johnson's and the Braden's are the centre of one massive family feud after both fathers fell out over a land dispute years ago, the very mention of each others name is prohibited. What makes matters even worse is that Jade is just as much in love with Rex as he is with her, but neither want to break their families hearts and cause more distress than there already is.  Jade and Rex have years of pent up affection, lust and love for each other, will love win out or will their family loyalty win? I enjoyed the whole horsey theme to this story, especially the close bond and affection all the Bradens have for their mothers horse Hope, their father had bought their mother the horse when she became ill before she passed away.  Loosing their mother affected each of the Braden family deeply in different ways and there is such a connection to Hope. The second half of the book strongly grabbed me and I read it in one day, I just couldn't put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen next, it was intense and emotional! The author easily pulls you into the story feeling that your part of it as it unfolds. The story is not only hot and steamy but it's also heartwarming, emotional, and reinforces just how much family really matters.

Enjoyable Contemporary Western Romance I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. Two star crossed lovers kept apart by a family feud are the central characters in Melissa Foster’s Destined for Love, the second book in her contemporary romance series, The Bradens. Well developed characters, good dialogue and just the right amount of spicy romance kept me turning the pages to discover what would happen next. While a part of a series, this book can be enjoyed completely on its own. A hard working cowboy who’s kept the family ranch running successfully, Rex Braden has reached a crossroad in his life. Tired of settling for part time relationships, Rex knows he wants something more – he just doesn’t know what that is until he runs into Jade Johnson, the girl who got away because of a family feud. He just didn’t realize he’d have to choose between what his heart wants and his family. Returning home after losing her vet practice and being stalked by an ex who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word no, Jade Johnson wants a chance to start over. When her horse is injured and Rex Braden comes to her rescue, Jade realizes she can no longer deny the attraction between them. She just didn’t plan on losing her heart. The scenes between Rex and Jade are well written and lots of fun. They have great verbal and physical chemistry. Ms. Foster does a good job developing their characters; both are hard working, loyal and deeply devoted to their families. They also know the relationship growing between them is mean to be. They’ll have to take a united stand against their family’s ridiculous feud. The secondary characters are also well written and I enjoyed getting to know the Bradens better. I also enjoyed meeting Jade’s family, especially her dad, Earl. We also get to meet Rex’s horse, Hope, who’s been a "member" of Rex’s family for a while, and who plays an important part in Rex and Jade’s relationship. Will Rex and Jade have what it takes to make their relationship work? Will the love between them be enough to become a bridge between their families? You’ll have to read Destined for Love to find out, I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Foster’s work.

4.5 Stars! I have already met Rex when I read Treat’s story. Even then, his rough exterior didn’t put me off. Despite being hard on the outside, this man is a sweet, sensitive creature who’s wealth didn’t just come from his family but from hard work. Unlike Treat who built his empire, Rex opted to stay at the ranch and worked day and night helping his father. He was not the one to flaunt his affairs, he was afraid to cause his father distress. But there was only one girl who had caught his interest since then, one girl he couldn’t have. And now, she’s back in town – more beautiful and more irresistible than ever, the daughter of his father’s arch nemesis, Jade Johnson. After running away from a disastrous relationship and trying to put into practice her degree in veterinary medicine, Jade Johnson comes back to the safety and security of her small hometown. Her world was as mundane as it could be until an incident made her cross-paths with Rex Branden. Not-so-good family history would have stopped them both to be together. They did try to stay away from each other – saving their family not just from humiliation, but from heartaches. The excitement of a forbidden love-affair, not to mention fifteen LONG years of hidden attraction makes the passion stronger than ever – will one of them be strong enough to fight it? Or will both of them succumb to it? Loyalties and relationships will be tested. Will their love be enough to stop the long-standing feud between the family? I loveeeeed Rex and I just knew there was something between him and Jade even from the first book. The sparks were already there, ready to explode once one of them will be brave enough to ignite it. I was wondering who will make the first move, how will their relationship come about, and how will it affect both families… what I didn’t expect is a story about the legend that might prove Rex and Jade are two souls who are meant to be together. The legend was something different and new to my ears. It adds a nice touch to the story. Unlike their fathers, Rex’s siblings were unexpectedly accepting of their relationship. They already liked Jade but already warned Rex about the consequences of their action. The both of them might acted like horny teenagers at some point – but both of them have good heads on their shoulder to consider their families before themselves. But when the time came that both of them needed to chose, they already know what their choices are. It’s always hard to choose between the ones you love – but in the end, no matter what you choose, family will always be family. No pride, no feud, and no forbidden romance can drive it apart. Destined for Love is a modern-day tale of Romeo and Juliet, only that the ending was way different. It’s about love, friendship, family and loyalty. I have fallen in love with this series the first time I read Lovers at Heart and will surely to read every single one of them.  ¿ARC Copy was given in exchange for an honest review.¿

Rex lives and breathes the family ranch. Other than his family it is all he cares about. He has always been the one to hold everything in. That all changes when Jade moves back to town. He has always liked her but with their families feuding for years he knows it will never work. Jade has moved back home after a bad breakup. She and Rex butt heads on more than one occasion. They both can't fight what is between them even knowing it will never work because of their families. They will have to figure it out with some help from the past to work things out. Jade is a vet who believes in more than medicine can help heal an animal. She is good at her job and wants to help all animals. She can be very stubborn and doesn't back down from Rex one bit. Rex is pretty much a rugged rancher who is very sexy. Once he sets his mind to something he doesn't let go of it. He is a hard worker and very loyal to his family. It does cause him some problems at times. These two are good characters apart but together they are wonderful. I adore this series and always can't wait to pick up the next book and read it. You really get to see these characters and how they interact with each other. The author does a great job with them as you can't help but want them all to be happy. I liked both Rex and Jade as they have like a modern day Hatfield & McCoy thing going on. It isn't their feud but they find themselves tangled up in it. They really don't know for sure what the feud is over. They have some help from the past getting together and working out their feelings. I love that touch the author added as it shows love years later and feels very magical. I liked learning more about Rex's family and I have to say I hope nothing happens to Hope in these books as that horse is very special. If you are looking for a fantastic series about a wonderful family and love grab this series.
