Posted on Romancing the Books blog / Reviewed by Lori / Review Copy Provided by the Author / This is the second in the Masters of Submission series. Each book is a stand alone book and lets the reader know what has happened in the previous story so you’ll be properly caught up and will understand the plot. I didn’t realize this was a series when I chose this book, I just really like Jan Bowles work and was kind of excited that I got to read another of her stories. So far she hasn’t let me down with her excellent story telling and this book is just as entertaining as her other works. Zoe was an interesting character to read and I think relatable to most women. She was very concerned about her age and her ability to compete with women who were younger than her at her job. She was insecure about herself because she felt that she was old and concerned about how desirable she would be to the clientele which could impact how much money she could earn. Who hasn’t felt old or undesirable at one point or another? It can really mess with your confidence. She’s always depended on herself and hasn’t got a lot of confidence that anyone will take care of her for the long run. Hunter was an interesting character as well. He has a lot of guilt stemming from several incidences that happened from his past. He has a hard time letting Zoe get close to him emotionally which greatly impacts their relationship. Jan Bowles male characters are hard men who aren’t gentle with their submissives and Hunter is within that catergory. He demands a lot from Zoe as his submissive. Zoe is uncertain and frightened at several points in the story but whatever happens between them is always her choice. What I like about the story is that they both have their own “stuff” that they are trying to work on and they are also trying to help each other out as well. I think that’s pretty cool.

Jan Bowles always writes a great story, and this one was no exception. It focuses on a Dom with a lot of baggage from his time in Afghanistan. A really lovely story.
