Overview

Her destiny must be fulfilled . . .

Branwen refuses to take orders from anyone—even the Shining Ones. The ancient gods have marked her as the one fated to save her country from the Saxons. But is she truly ready to be a leader?

Then a messenger from the skies shows her a vision of a bleak and violent future, a future in which Branwen has abandoned her destiny, and those most dear to her suffer unspeakable horrors. There's a blurry line between good and evil, and those Branwen trusts the most are capable of the greatest betrayal. The Shining Ones have spoken. Will Branwen answer their call?

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Susan Allen
Starting where Warrior Princess (HarperTeen, 2009/VOYA June 2009) stopped, Branwen is traveling away from her battle with the Saxons, questioning who she is and what the old gods, the Shining Ones, expect of her. They tell her that she is destined to be "the savior of her land and her people. To drive back the rising tide of bloodied Saxon iron. To be a warrior—a leader." She is not certain she wants to assume this responsibility, nor does she feel that she is ready to do so, and she seems to get no guidance from the Shining Ones. A messenger from the skies, however, visits her and reveals a vision of the bleak and violent future that will come to pass if she does not embrace her destiny. Having left her home in flames and her father dead on the battlefield, Princess Branwen finds that nothing in her world is as it should be. The line between good and evil is quite blurred, and those she trusts seem to be the ones to betray her first. This brave female heroine will appeal to Tamora Pierce fans. Her mystical world has just enough factual history to appeal to both the fantasy lovers and those who like historical fiction. The story line will entice readers to continue to read, always wondering whether Branwen will decide to answer the call of the Shining Ones and embrace her destiny. Reviewer: Susan Allen

In another amazing series, Freewin Jones draws you in and holds you tight. After reading the first book in this series. I was completely hooked and wanted more. The characters are so real and I couldn't help but wonder what was next in this young girl's life. A definite read for anyone that likes medieval settings or heroines. There is a lot to learn here about never giving up and always remaining true to your promises.
