In a world where the media floods the perceptions of the masses with fantastic notions of those who lie and "Wizards" who can catch them, Aldert Vrij injects a well needed shot of reality. In this revised volume, Vrij does a remarkably comprehensive job of reviewing both the theoretical underpinnings, and empirical research on the phenomenon of lying and our ability to identify those who deceive. This book is a must for researchers in the area of forensics, motivation, social psychology, experimental psychology, and even clinical psychology (to name but a few). While the casual reader may find some aspects too technical, anyone who reads this volume will ultimately walk away with a substantially enriched knowledge of human behavior and a healthy degree of skepticism regarding those who claim to be skilled lie catchers.
