When Stephy learns meatloaf is for dinner, she is not happy. However, her mom reassures her that there will be chocolate cake for dessert, but unfortunately the entire cake is missing! Stephy Wephy Holmes takes on the case and searches the house for clues and the culprit. Will she find the cake in time or will the thief get away with the crime? This is an adorable picture book for young, aspiring detectives. The drawings are flawless and charming. The story is cute, but difficult to follow due to the fact that pictures are not on the same page as the writing. Stephy Wephy Holmes is determined to find the missing cake, which many children would be too. This book is good for families to enjoy together and to help encourage little ones to read. Notes: The author provided a copy of this book for me to review.  This review was originally posted on the Ariesgrl Book Reviews website.

Reviewed by Joy Hannabass for Readers' Favorite What happened to the missing cake? Stephanie wasn’t too happy about the meat loaf she was having for dinner, but since she loved cake, she was excited about the cake her mom made for dessert. But when her mom took the cover off the cake, it was gone. This lead Stephanie on a trail to find everyone in the house and ask if they had taken the cake. Will this trail lead to the missing cake and find out whodunit?  Though this is not much a mystery for adults, it is a cute and interesting little mystery for a small child. I can see a child being excited about finding out who took the cake from the family table. Stephanie makes the story fun and exciting by searching out each family member and questioning them to see if they took part in the missing cake. I love the adorable pictures, and I like the color book illustrations idea. However, I don’t feel the pictures stand out enough and are not colorful enough to capture a small child’s attention. This is a really cute story, and I think more vivid colors and a cute child-like font to go along with the pictures would really help make Detective Stephy Wephy Holmes in the Missing Cake more attractive to young readers. You will surely have a lot of fun reading this book to your children.
