Through four editions, The Development of Children has provided students and instructors with a rigorous textbook that encompasses both scientific research and the authors' years of practical experience. For the Fifth Edition, Michael and Shelia Cole are joined by Cynthia Lightfoot, whose expertise and engaging style further enhances this well-respected book. Pretty good book

This book is written in a clear and concise style. The authors don't mince words, and the layout is really reader-friendly. They have key terms in boldface, and the definition in the text, and in the margins on the same page (so one doesn't have to go hunting around for it in the glossary at the back). They have lots of charts that highlight important concepts and a very detailed summary at the back with thought questions. I am very pleased with this book, but the binding is pathetic. My (gently used) book is already letting threads from the binding out onto table surfaces.
