Overview

Developments in Turbomachinery Design comprises a collection of twelve papers originally published in a special edition of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science. In these papers practising designers, mainly from industry, describe the design process, as they see it, for many different types of turbomachine. Concentrating on the aerodynamic design, the authors discuss the compromises that are necessary in order to satisfy mechanical or other requirements. The book contains specific papers on the design of most common types of turbomachine ranging from gas turbines to steam turbines, and from pumps to turbochargers. In addition there are papers on design methods in general, such as CFD, inverse design, and three-dimensional design.
