HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE – FOR GOD?

If you are like most dating couples, you are looking for more than just a companion – you want a soul mate! The essence of a true soul mate relationship is that of deep spiritual connection. This dynamic book, Devotions for Dating Couples, offers guidance for deepening your commitment to God as individuals and as a couple. Through short chapters focused on such essential topics as prayer, simplicity, community, and purity, you will discover how to make your most important love relationships–with God and your potential mate–strong, lasting, and radiant.

Relationship experts Ben Young and Samuel Adams, authors of The Ten Commandments of Dating and The One, give user-friendly tips for nurturing your personal walk with God and enhancing your spiritual connection as a couple. As you read through the devotions each day, you will:

  • Become a great lover by learning to love God first
  • Develop the essential disciplines of a lasting relationship
  • Focus on the important things in life
  • Discover a sense of spiritual purpose and meaning
  • Understand that grace is not just for "beginners" – it is for you, every day

Whether you are dating seriously or engaged to be married, these daily personal devotions and weekly couple's devotions will help you discover the way to lifelong love.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Young, host of the syndicated radio show The Single Connection, and Adams, a clinical psychologist, present a nine-week course of daily devotionals for committed Christians involved in long-term relationships and aiming toward marriage. Weekly "disciplines" focusing on foundational spiritual themes-love, prayer, simplicity-are divided into daily mediations meant to be read in solitude. On Saturdays, suggest the authors (The Ten Commandments of Dating), couples should spend the day together and discuss their thoughts about the week's theme; Sundays they ought to attend church. The Monday-to-Friday anecdotes, which often use the prosaic to illustrate the profound (the shame of a messy dorm room, for instance, teaches the importance of "healthy self-talk"), can feel a bit judgmental and preachy. But each week's summary questions will help partners reconnect with their spiritual selves, and may even settle questions of compatibility. Successful relationships take work, the authors remind us. Their somewhat didactic approach, however, might turn off some readers, and the length and intensity of the course may mean that others lose steam partway through. My boyfriend bought two copies of this book and gave them to me for Christmas. Instead of doing the devotions each day, we do one a week. This allows us time to think and actually act out and live what we learn from the word of God. It is amazing and we have both grown tremendously...with God and each other.

My boyfriend and I had been seriously dating for two and a half years when we decided to deepen our relationship and spirituality and found this book. We also have a long distance relationship and see each other on weekends so the set-up of the readings really worked well, though we typically end up talking about each day's devotional anyways. Certain days applied more to our lives or situations better than others but there was always something we took away from them. I wish the bible verses were printed out so they were right there and easier to access. Also, we got engaged during the process of reading this so hey ;)

This is a great devotional book for couples to go through together. It allows each person to consider where the relationship is headed and where their own relationship with God stands. It helped my boyfriend and I to discuss spiritual things on a deeper level than we had before and to learn more about what each other believed. It has also spurred us on to be more deliberate about things such as praying for each other, encouraging other, and challenging each other. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is in a committed relationship headed toward marriage.

My boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to grow spiritually, both individually and as a couple. Overall, we were greatly challenged in the discussion questions and we're at a new level because we've taken on the challenges. Also, in the beginning we had discussed passing the books along to another couple after the 9 weeks was over, but we both decided to keep our books because it has such good material. Parts of this book could also be used as a reference by a young adult leader if you're discussing marriage or dating with a larger group.

In my opinion any christian couple that is seriously dating and contemplating spending the rest of their lives together should read this book. I found the information to be very helpful and the authors insight into the importance of our relationship with God is great. I plan on passing on the knowledge that I gained to other couples that are in the same position I am in.

My favorite thing about this book is that everything in this book is based on God and growing your relationship with God because after all God is the source of love. In my opinion this devotional book is also like a daily study book. I love that at the end of each day there is a "Further Scriptural Meditation" which contains 3 scriptures that relate to the day's devotional. My fiance & I really enjoy this book.

I thought overall it was a good book that spoke truth, but honestly I was a little disappointed. Most of the material in the book was very basic and elementary and I felt like I had already mastered those concepts and wanted a deeper dive. I wasn't challenged. I would compare it to "Purpose Driven Life". It's an excellent book that covers the basics but as a Christian who already knows the benefits of going to church regularly, and praying, etc. etc., it's nothing special. I don't want to bash this book, but to be honest, I wouldn't recommend it.

Would like to buy from here, but it is not an option.
