Overview

With rising unemployment and plummeting retirement accounts, more and more people are looking for work. While there are dozens of books about polishing your résumé and sharpening your interview skills, little attention has been paid to coping with the spiritual distress and feelings of hopelessness that can overwhelm you when you’re searching for a job.
Devotions for Job Seekers can help. This book features one hundred daily meditations, each one offering a pertinent passage from the Bible, a few paragraphs that focus on a particular challenge of being unemployed, and a short prayer. Ranging from very practical concerns to more profound spiritual matters, the meditations address such topics as letting yourself grieve, handling anger, reassessing priorities, overcoming the sense of being superfluous, and learning to acknowledge and embrace your dependence on God during periods of distress. Throughout the book, examples of Biblical characters who survived various job and personal crises bring to light the power of faith and prayer.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
With layoffs and "downsizing" becoming a corporate reality for many workers, this niche devotional serves the growing population of Christians who find themselves "in between" jobs or careers. This is not a devotional for those seeking to make their jobs more spiritual, but for those seeking jobs; it addresses some of the feelings of hopelessness and panic that characterize periods of unemployment. Malone, now a v-p in the book distribution business, knows firsthand the bewilderment and identity loss of a sudden layoff, and he draws from that experience in writing these 120 daily meditations. Each meditation is based on a short passage from the Bible; the psalms of lament, of course, loom large here, and there's a fair amount of material from Job, Lamentations and the sufferings of Paul. Malone organizes the devotions in a rough chronological progression, dealing with the initial shock of a job loss, feelings of rejection and, finally, the courage and persistence needed to find another position. Previous Book

I wa given a previous book of Mr. Malone's by a friend. You're Not Alone, published in 1992. This is an outstanding book especialy for those in between jobs or struggling with job issues. It is a faith based book with excellant practical suggestions. This day our daily bread takes on a new meaning. I'm recommending the new book based on the previous one. Get them both! Your faith will be rewarded & you'll be reassured that you're not alone. God bless, JDA
