Overview

Former Loved Ones frontman/guitarist Dave Hause drops his second solo set with the help of friends from Frightened Rabbit, My Morning Jacket, and Social Distortion. These 12 tracks were written with the Loved Ones in mind, but when the band dissolved, Hause set about recording them on his own. In stark contrast to his previous offering Resolutions, Devour is fully electric, beautifully played, and driven by often anthemic melodies and dynamics that recall Bruce Springsteen circa The River, but infused with the spirit of 21st century punk. The songs are drenched in topics that range from the personal rage at being cheated out of the American Dream (first single "We Could Be Kings," "The Great Depression"), societal disillusionment ("Autism Vaccine Blues" and "Stockholm Syndrome"), and familial and spiritual alienation ("Father's Son" and "Becoming Secular").
